Hi guys, has anyone retrofitted his car with a speed/cruise control from another model/same model. i would very much like to have cruise control on my 318iS and would like info as to what is needed to retrofit it and is it possible at all?
Did any of the E36 318iS's came out with speed/cruise control? Would it be possible to get all the stuff off another car and fit it to my car? Anyone done this? Is it a big job?

Manual or auto ?
It may be possible to retrofit but for manual eg. you need the switch at the clutch pedal so when you change gears the car does not over rev . For auto you do not need the switch as it kicks down if needed .
You may try a 325i or 328i speed control , mounting brackets on engine may not fit on yours though .

It is a manual - have seen the bracket for the brake pedal switch next to the brake light switch down at the brake pedal. Think car could be pre-wired for cruise control. Think also the extra bracket is already on the accelerator at the engine side.

4cyl E36 models don't come pre-wired for cruise control, only 6cyl models do.
So if you have a 6cyl model then its plug-and-play, if 4cyl model then you need to make up new wiring harnesses.

I've seen the wiring harness plug in the engine bay (round connector close to the airbox). Is there another harness required in the steering column?

If you seen the large round plug next the air box then the whole car will be pre wired for it. Just a case of fitting all the components.

Shit, yesterday was the first time I used the cruise control on my car. It works, but if you not use to it then it can be quite scary. Mmmmm, I wonder, maybe because I had my speed set to 100kph and activated it when i came out of a bend, in peak traffic! :roflol:

Should have seen the wifes face when I lifted my feet of the floor and the car still accelerating. Eish!

When you put your foot on the brakes , it should deactivate right? I know It does this on my E30 and E46.

It does yes, still trying to figure the correct way to activate it. I pressed a few times and not sure what caused it to activate.
