E36 3.18I rpms up and down

hi to all members:i just got sign up today.can anyone help me on my bmw 3.18i rpm low about 400 and it goes up and down and the sound is very erratic pls. help me

Check for air leaks, if not then its the idle control valve, clean it and if it still does it then replace it.

hello gizmo, thanks for your reply on my car problem. may i ask where's the icv and 02 sensor located? dont know much bout this hehehe.thanks

Your 318i doesn't have a oxygen sensor, but if it did it would be on the exhaust just after the 2 into 1 collector.

hey gizmo gud am. pls check this out.this is my engine.i think i dont have that parts u mention.check in front of my intake manifold.pls comment b4 i start working on it.thank u

Thats because you have a 316i. The 318i have the twincam 16valve motor. Yours is the 8valve M43 engine. The ICV sits on the throttle body its easy to replace.

Can he just unplug and unscrew it and clean it in paraffin or engine cleaner , like we clean the ICV on M20 and M50 motors ?
When you hear the parts move freely the mechanicals are ok , maybe the electrics are stuffed , then ICV needs replacing .

okay now i know. so i have to removed this and clean it?thanks kind of damb u know. first car hehe

Check the airflow meter could be the problems its a common thing to my knowledge
