E34 rear shelf

Hi All,

So I am plotting some speaker upgrades to the rear of the E34, and what I am putting in there are larger then the current, so I cannot just lift the speaker grills, I have to take out the rear shelf.

I have removed rear seats, and C Pillers, and the 4 little plastic rivets that hold the shelf on, but I cannot get the rear loose, and the net says just pull, I have already broken one of the clips for the C piller so I am not keen on doing that.

I also do not think that the US cars had the pull up sun screen, hence while I am battling.

I started this morning, then had to go and move plumbing as woman cant make up their fscking minds... :cursin:

So I shall do the rest on Saturday, but would appreciate any guidence.

If you look at the writeup that Garfield did for the installation of his SatNav in the E46, does the E34's rear deck look anything like that?

There is sound deadening under the shelf, it's made of some tar like substance. this gets hot in the sun and over the years bonds to the rear shelf.

It will come loose, the sound insulation will tear (Not actually a problem). The trick is to get your hand under there and lift all the sound insulation and shelf right up whilst feeding the whole thing off the rear shelf.

Thanks Rick,

If I do this properly, I should actually remove all that crap and dynamat it properly, but damm that stuff is expensive, and I am saving up for a new suspension, I also promised myself that this sound install cannot cost me money except for wood and leather... but alas :)

When I was busy changing my interior, I completely removed everything, put just the driver seat and steering back and went for a spin with about 400Kg of interior crap removed.

Now that was fun:)
