E34 M5's bite

Got the fright of my life today, and made a total doos out of myself in the traffic......

I'm stuck in slow moving traffic on the R300 for ages, put on the indicator to get into the left lane, nobody will let me in. Half a minute later I'm getting irritated (mistake).

Im in 1st gear forget I'm not in my other car and shove my right foot to the floor because there is a gap ahead, something I seldom do.

Oh S&*%^t the next second it's screaming tires, rubber smoke everywhere stripes on the road and I'm very unintentionally drifting this wildly fishtailing car in the centre lane of rush hour traffic. After the initial surprise I recovered it quick.

I felt like such an idiot, it was completely unintentional, this old M scares the heck out of me the way it can brutally turn around and bite.

Lol, I'm sure they did, fortunately there was a big gap in front.

I have a whole new respect for this thing now.

These old cars rock. Always keeps you on your toes. Used to also do this unintentionaly with my E30 in the rain in the mornings going to UCT.

I once unintentionally threw the back end of the 318i out. Now it was raining and the road I was turning into was going up hill. So the back end broke loose down hill. I hope this makes sens??

Anyway, I counter steered, lifted my foot from the gas, got it straight and just kept going. I was shocked to say the least. Never thought that a little 318i with an open diff can do that. It wasn't like I was really going for it either, was just trying to take the gap in traffic. Needles to say I have much more respect for cars in general and I now take it mmmuuuuccchh easier in the rain. The 540's ASC also never gets turned off :mmm: Rather arrive in one peace than never arriving at all :thumb:
