E34 M5: original vs aftermarket rims

I'm waiting for new spigots for the aftermarket rims fitted to my M. In the meantime I've decided to refit the original E34 M5 (turbine style) rims as a reminder of what the M looks like with them fitted. I know the general consensus is that one should keep the M "original" but I personally much prefer its look with the aftermaket rims. Here are some comparative pics for those who may be interested.

I am also not a huge fan of the turbines, but it does add caracter and value to the car from a purist perspective.

The turbines looks too much like hubcaps, but I'd say, get the new ones, but keep the turbines when you sell as they will really help keep the value of the car.

I don't know, M contours would probably look the best on an e34 M5, that or some kind of BBS wheels as they always look awesome on the classic BMW's, the e60 M5 style wheels look a bit to modern on an e34, so I would keep the turbines on, but just my opinion of course (I would also try to get original clear indicators)

@hellas & @fordkoppie: I agree that the turbines look too much like hubcaps. I also have the alternative (throwing star) covers that came with the M5. The original rims with both covers are available to anyone who might want to buy.

@Sankekur: Comments noted, thanks bud. I think the 18" parallels look best on the E34 but as you no doubt know, they are scarce ...

Agree with both Fordkoppie and Hellas, yes the turbines are an acquired taste and look like hubcaps but they also say "E34 M5".

If you have the throwing star covers that would be the way to go in my opinion(perhaps with a high polish on the dish). If the aftermarket wheel you refering to is the E60 M5 wheel, not my favourite detracts from the look of your car...

You right about the original being an acquired taste.,, I'm very old school and I love it...I'm sure the guys at bmw built and tuned that car with that rim... Lower-profile tires just end up being backbreakers

How much would you sell 'em for?

You won't go wrong with the throwing stars, they look awesome on the E34. lol... initialy I preferred the throwing stars(have a set as well) to the M Par's and was going to swap them around but after having them on a for a while they have grown on me alot. They actually suit the car quite well so will be leaving them in place for the present.

Curious also had a recent request from a certain Ford fan with a black M5, asking if I was wanting to sell the M Par's....:)
