If you want to replace the fuelpump. BMW charges 5700r for part only.

I went to www.diesel-electric.co.za (Bosch importer)

in wynberg. Got one, original Bosch, for a lot cheaper. SAME PUMP!!

No noise and going smooth now. Installing is like 300 bucks or so. Easy, is in boot but mind the polarity and disconnect battery.

Is this procedure exactly the same for an E36?

Yes (even though I don't know the E36), cause I did my Polo's pump the other day and it was the same procedure, so bottom line is: If you know where the pump is, the procedure is the same for all cars. Just make sure you connect the pipes the right way round and that's it!

E36 fuel pump is under your rear seat on the right.just lift the seat,it just unclips and take it out.just unscrew the cap that holds the fuel pump in place and disconnet the fuel hose.the whole unit will just slide out.

Danzellc, grab the part from realoem and just google, your bound to find someone who will have the equiv.

Worked fine for all my gearbox research and other bits I have been doing up till now.

I did that allready, came up with 3 part numbers. Even the bosch cataloque doesnt have the e34 540 in it. the closed that I got was the pump of the m5 e34. It flows 130 l/h which enough for the 540. Another thing I can do is remove my pump and check the number but thats alot of work. I also saw that some 540's have a pierburg pump. Thats why I thought someone might have the number at hand:bawling:

Try this number. When on the Pierburg website, it says that their fuelpump is a direct replacement for this BOSCH part number...
