E34 540i - Low and high idling when in gear - Auto

Hi

I've got a bit of a problem and trying to work this out, so any advice is more than welcome.

When the car is cold it idles normal, but as soon as I put it in gear (any gear) the idling lowers and then jumps up again. This only happens when the car is cold and extremely uncomfortable.

Any advice is welcome (and needed)

Seems I found the problem

The Idle Control Valve seems to have given in. I did clean it but I still have the low and high idle problem.

Any good dealers anybody can refer me too?

I changed the idle speed control valve.

Still have the same problem.

So when the car is warm it idles fine? Any smoke on start up?

Yes, when it's warm.... all is fine

No smoke (ever)

Have heard that the m60's are very sensitive to vacuum leaks so that's where I'd start. Front and rear Intake manifold gaskets, throttle body gasket and pcv plate are apparently the usual culprits.

What he said. Change pcv, make sure there are no vacuum leaks.
