cfroc; Nice to finally find a forum and more importantly owners of the very few South-African made 540i/6 E34. The SA-cars are the only ones that I don't have the equipment lists on (ok I have the built date, but no more). My first knowledge of the SA-540i/6 was when the pictures of BB82028 turned up on the internet. A dark grey/black metallic with black leather and M-mirrors, this was January 2006.
With the VIN I went through the VIN series at realoem.com and found out that 72 cars were made; BB82000-BB82071 between September 1995 and January 1996 (only BB82070). Got built date of them all, but no other info.
I got from a of friend a test of the SA 540i/6 from a car magazine in 2007.
I would like to know more (read everything) about the SA 540i/6 and all details, which colors was offered? Have all the same equipment?
The different version of 540i/6 are these;
HE51 Euro LHD Limousine: 797 made (7 cars have EDC III Nürburging suspension as an Individual option, 10 cars were transformed to Alpina B10 4,0 (1) and 4,6 (9).
HE52 Euro RHD Limousine; 249 made (the 70 made Australien 540i LE are in this number).
HE53 North-America LHD Limousine; 1524 made (the 32 made Canadian M540i and the 139 made US M-Sport are in this number).
HE98 South-Africa RHD Limousine; 72 made.
HK31 Euro LHD Touring; 499 made (8 cars have EDC III Nürburgring suspension as an Individual option, 5 cars were transformed to Alpina B10 4,6.
HK32 Euro RHD Touring; 62 made.

I bought my first 540i/6 in March 2002 it was #774/797 MY96 Cosmosschwarz/Light Silvergrey Bison leather with M Sport Package. Since than the following were bought;
#794/797 MY96 Oxfordgrün/black leather with 30000DM options list (re-export to Germany)
#756/797 MY95 Hellrot/anthrazit velour (export to Norway)
#630/797 MY95 Arktisgrau/silvergrey velour (my sister has it)
#788/797 MY96 Arktissilber/black leather, last built with M Sport Package (sold to north of Sweden)
#410/797 MY95 Arktissilber/silvergrey leather one of six built Arktissilber with M Sport Package
#768/797 MY96 Arktissilber/black leather one of the 7 HE51 with EDC III Nürburgring suspension, ex testcar at M GMBH than with a 4,6 liter 350BHP engine, sold to Polizei in Stuttgart with original M60B40
#774, #410 and #768 do I own + a Individual painted 540iA with M Sport Package (1 of 3 M Sport Package 540iA with Individual paint, only one in Orientblau).
