E30 indicator flashing problem , Im stumped :(

Hi Guys

Will try and explain my situation as best I can .
As some of you know , im sloooowly bringing my E30 back to life .

I have sorted out many of the electrical issues ( It does not have many thankfully ) but now im stumped on this issue .

The problem with my indicator is that it does not flash on the speedometer.

Right Side

I press the lever down to turn the right side indicator on , I hear the indicator tick normally , and I see the green light flash on the speedometer and I see the indicators outside flicker . This works properly

Left Side

I press the lever Up to turn the left side indicator on , I hear the indicator tick normally , I see the outside lights flashing normally but i DONT see the green light flash on the speedometer .

When I press the Hazard lights switch , I hear the tick , I see all the bulbs outside flashing , but only the right side green indicator arrow on the speedometer flashes.

I checked the fuses , all seems well .

Checked the flasher relay , swapped it with a known good one , and it did the same .

My indicator stalk has a BC button on it and I could not find one with a BC button , but did find a normal known good working one without the BC button , Swapped that out and it did the same thing .

I checked the bulb at the back of the speedometer , Swapped it left to right , fitted a new bulb in and it did the same thing .

I swapped speedometers with a spare that I have from a 316i , which is a known working one and it did the same thing .

is there any wire that goes from the stalk to the speedometer? that's for the turn signal flasher?

Im stumped on this , and not sure what to look at next . :blueCry:

Thanks guys for all the assistance!

How many relays are there for this system? I have only ever changed the Main relay and fuel pump relay in this car .

No doubt there is a wiring issue or wrong relay being used.

So I figured out that its defiantly the Speedometer thats a problem , Swapped in a Good working speedo from a 325i and it worked , So next step looks like I have to open up the speedometer and look at the soldering on the board ..
No Idea why the 316 I speedometer didnt work .

Problem Solved!

So I took apart my speedometer , using a magnifying glass I inspected the main board , looked at all the soldering joints and channels .

I Found a crack on one of the wire channels printed on the board , scraped away the paint , found the break , soldered the wire , painted over the repair and tested it .

Indicators now work : perfectly on the speedometer again :)

Glad you managed to solve it.
One question: Shouldn't it work the other way, i.e Up for Right and Down for Left?:skit:
