E30 Check Control Panel

Was shooting the breeze earlier with some mates, when the topic of the E30 OBC came up. I was adamant that they only came with the calculator type above the HVAC controls, and my friends maintained there was a panel on the roof above the rear view mirror. A quick google reveals this to be true, but of the dozen or so E30's ive seen, including our old 316i Auto and a couple of 325is's, I have never seen this check control panel. They have seen it on a 320i and a 325i.

My question : was this panel an optional extra? or only fitted to a limited number of cars locally?

I had the check control panel on mine. I think it came with "Executive" spec models

yeah its not an obc, its a check panel. You press a button and all the lights come on, the ones that stay on is the problem areas.

Also stuff like brake light check light comes on when you start car and then goes off once you press pedal.

the obc E30s used was the small calculator" type you said, so technically you were right:rollsmile:

Most E30s ive seen has that check panel

I recently looked at a 4 door 325i that was for sale and it definitely did not have the check control panel

Thanks for the responses anyway.

I have had 4 E30's all, with check panels. Quite strange to think of how it would look without one actually?

Dont know about 316/ 318 but all our 320/ 325/ 325is cars had the full check panel overhead.

320's had the digital clock with date function in the centre console next to the radio. 325 and is cars had the full obc.

all 6 cylinder cars left the factory with the overhead check control panel. obc was an optional extra on the 325i otherwise digital clock with temp gauge was standard. any 320, 323, or 325 with out a check control panel has either been altered or was originally a 316 or 318.
