Well, I've had mine for 9 years now and I'm still not bored of it. Actually rode it a bit today as the rain buggered off and the weather was pleasant! It isn't perfect and probably never will be but it's neat enough to keep my interest and there is always something to do to it to make it that bit better. Some piccies for you:

My Great Grand-daddy of the current M3 on the left! Looks positively tiny (it is actually :) )

Yes, I am pedantic about originality up to a point :)

If anyone has the original radio I would really like it! Need to ditch this one thing I am not totally happy with but it's better than a gaping hole :)

I have been collecting "stuff" on these cars for 9 years now, I have 33 cars on file from all over the place, big cities to little dorpies I can't even pronounce. I do think that for the greater part, they have crossed the point of getting ridden to death now, the original ones left are pretty much looked after and ones that crop up are taken by people willing to fix them properly, do however get yours while they still in SA, before they end up traded in some foreign currency :(

Cheers

They get more expensive everytime one is written off.
I remember admiring one in the little town of Harding where I schooled but more recently I saw it having the old M5 engine and driving along the gravel road without its bonnet.

Saw one on the road the other day! sounded and looked so healthy wanted to take the m3 on but could not, public road:grin: and traffic :evilish: . I asked him if it is for sale and nope it was not, he changed gears and disappeared? Still legendary cars. wonder if they will ever make a new spec one?

Triplethree, that is a truly beautiful example of a fantastic classic BMW. Congrats on a great car, and in keeping it in such original condition. Awesome!!!

You can modify a car, as long as it is done in good taste.

Hot Rods are good examples of this, those cars are far from their original state once they leave the workshop and yet fetch astranomical prices.

Also Eleanor from gone in 60 seconds is also far from standard, infact it was running gas and I'm sure examples of those cars will fetch whatever price they want to fetch, and they are far from standard.

Yes, I agree, you can if done in good taste. I understand the hot rod and muscle car market, and appreciate the results. And yes, agree again to the fact that they command astronomical prices. Although there are many BMW modders who turn out great cars, I just feel BMW's are in a different market and don't lend themselves to modifying in the same way. Modified BMW's certainly seldom retain their value over the long term. When concerning a limited run classic BMW, I think it should be kept as faithfull to its' original state as possible, not only from a value point of view, but also from a historical one. In my mind the 333i falls into this category, and thus should be kept as original as possible.
