I see a lot of people raving about the iS, but nothing about the 333i. Isn't that the SA M3? Or are they just too scares?

AFAIK, the 333i was the 3.2L 145kw car vs the 2.7L 325is, 145kw Evo1 and 155kw Evo2.

The 333i was only available in the chrome bumpers while the iS Come with plastic bumpers.

I think the 333i is far more scarce than an iS in my opinion.

Thanks, so going for an evo 2 will be mostly for the power and availability and the 333i for exclusivity?

Sorry I have barely any knowledge on the E30. Does the different bumpers mean only that, different bumpers, or does it include more changes?

Top end the iS cannot hold a candle to the 333... As tested by my brothers who have a 333i and 325is between them.

The 333i is more scarce than the 325is as well - there are a shade over 200 examples worldwide

One thing I remember about the 333 is due to space in the engine bay u either could have power steering or Aircon....no place for both!

This is true!

The car is more fun without the power steering though :cartel:

I read somewhere that 204 of the 333i were built. SA got the 333i during '85 & '86 or '86 & '87. Many components were alpina. SA had the 333i instead of the M3 and then came the Shadowline 325i and later the 325is evo 1 and then 2. Is it true that the 325is came with the same suspension setup as the M3? 333i came from the old 733i?

Both cars are homegrown legends...:praise:

Was always curious why they used the engine from the 733i as opposed to the more commonly available 7/535i unit?

Because revs.

A 333i is a straight line hotrod, whereas a 325iS is a finely tuned track machine. That massive lump on the front end of the 333 aided nothing in terms of balance and the suspension was not so much different from a normal 325i shadowline.

BTW - 325i Shadowline and the 333i were available in parallel.

Keeping in mind that the 333i was built as a homologation model for BMW SA's track forays with the E30 that later evolved into the 325is models development, the 333i isn't a car that handles that badly. That being said, further engineering was required to get the car to be more nimble, and so the 325is models came to the fore.

I know it was a homologation special, but I am not sure....

Did it ever race? Was it competitive? Who raced it?

Not trying to be sarcastic here.... I genuinely don't know if the 333 ever raced in any series

PS - If it didn't race, the whole exersize was pretty futile

The 333i went on to a shortlived motorsport career in class B Modified, courtesy of a car driven by Robbi Smith and sponsored by Kaye-Eddie, but it was never designed as a homologation special. Counting against it was the sheer length of the M30 block and the fact of a weight distribution far from the perfect 50/50. Still, it became an icon among performance fiends, and did much to cement BMW’s local reputation for making driver’s cars.
