E30 325i vs E36 M3 coupe

Hey guys been toying with the idea of getting one of these icons to enjoy occasionally and on weekends. Cant seem to decide which one to get, unfortunately getting both is not an option...:YesNo:

I will be looking for a clean decentish model that has not been abused but also not a collectors item with astronomical prices. Its a car that will be used as opposed to standing in the garage. I guess consideration should also be given to the availability/affordability of parts and maintenance.

So please guys your thoughts, opinions, feedback will be appreciated...:coolShake:

A choice would be E30 325is vs E36 ///M3. Not 325i.

So in ur case, there can be only one: M3

Would love an iS but the ownership experience just seems to complicated, my thoughts are(I might be mistaken): A clean one is going to cost north of R150k, is going to attract to much of the wrong kind of attention. I am sure the other 2 get there fair share of attention but I assume its to a lesser extent.

I have not ruled out an iS, if a good one presents itself at a fair price hey who knows....

I would also lean towards the ///M.

You're keeping the 5er, yes? :bat:

Lols, yes...for the moment:tiptoe:

What!?!? Not you too!

No man, you know us enthusiasts we get antsy after a while but driving other cars is the solution as it highlights just how good the E39 is and all thoughts of selling are forgotten.

E30 coupe or e36 m3 coupe.

I think the e30 could be a bit cheaper, parts, maintenance wise but more high risk.. nice e30's especially 325i's are targets unfortunately.

I would look for a little 318i chromie and do an e36 M3 engine swap.. best of both worlds:=):

E30 is astronomically high risk but so much more fun to drive than the E36 M3, especially when the engine is stroked and makes a bit of power. Unfortunately stroking a clean 325iS will hurt its investment value and you will have to open the engine to give it a chance against a 3 litre M3. So reluctantly my vote would be a clean M3, simply due the theft risk inherent with the E30 and the fact that it's quick even in standard guise. Keep it clean and you won't lose money either.

Finding either clean versions of these cars will be a mammoth task. Getting your hands dirty and bringing a sad one back to life might be your only option. In this case an M3 would be easier to find parts for. And, well, ///M

hey bud.. I too was in this boat trying to figure out which one.. I searched high and low to find a decent 325iS but the pricing was insane. and even though I am a real BMW enthusiast, I couldn't see myself paying that for the car.

soo one afternoon a 327iS came out of the woodwork and was for sale at a very nice price. I went to test drive and I was happy. at the same time, my phone rings and my mate says, bro, that black M is up for grabs..

I got to the seller and it was a diamond black german specwith full service history. I closed my eyes and took the e36. 3 reasons,
1 - not many black on black german specs around.
2 - mechanically she is prestine and have a full service history
3 - I got her for half the price of the 327is.

now some say but the M3 is not an iS but then I say, you a haven't driven the M3. until you do, you will understand it.

as for parts, its like any car, make sure you buy the correct stuff and you wont have problems. Only genuine BMW goodies go into my car and she has 270 000 on her clock and still as smooth as the day she was produced in 1993 to be delivered in 1994..

my 2 cents bro, buy a decent M. as long as she is straight and mechanically she is sweet, you cant go wrong. a fresh coat of paint and interior can always be done..

The E30 is fast becoming a collector's item. That brings a whole lot of issues with it. Prices become fancy. Those who cannot pay make another plan to get one. If you have a really clean one you degrade its value by driving it. Etc.

So I would add my voice to the above: get an ///M and enjoy it while they are still relatively cheap.

I agree with this. A buddy of mine had an ///M and that's one of the reasons I'm hooked on BMW. They just perform so beautifully whether in traffic or on a B road......

Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to drive an iS. An E30 323i yes....but I was plenty young at the time lol
