Hey Mates i own an e28 525e with the m20 eta engine. This model was built for economy so you know how that feels right?....Its super slow and i want to make it a BEAST!:nonono:

i Want to reach about 300hp....so i was thinking of doing a transplant with an e36 m3 or 328i engine then turbocharging it or will modding and turbo(ing) my current engine help me reach those numbers?

those engines can handle quite the bit of boost as they are quite low compression. but seeing as you suggested the transplant route, maybe M50 turbo then. those things get crazy numbers! all depends on ur budget.

Since i might do the transplant does that mean i have to get the m3 gearbox too?

Also will this fit in well in the e28 chassis?

you dont HAVE to. depends on which ratios you are after, but you can always change that later by means of the diff. If im not mistaken the 525e had a loooong diff ratio so any E36 gearbox would work well to balance it out. if its still too lazy then get a different ratio diff.

any motor can fit in any car, all depends whos doing the work and on ur budget:rollsmile: but if it can fit into an E30 I dont see why it should be much harder.

If you going M, then its a buttload of money, if it was me id rather go for the "cheaper" engine and turbo it.

So you reckon i'd rather take the 2.8 from the e36 right? How much are we looking at for the transplant? (excluding engine cost).......I have about R20k budget for now.

put a e30 325i head on then you are nearly at 325iS power . Now turbo it and see the difference .
From 92 kW to about 150kW with the head and a chip/pipe .About 220 kW with a turbo , but if you change internals then boost can go up . Use a 3.64 e30 diff . The M route is expensive .Then you need brake and suspension upgrades as well .
Good luck .

Fit a normal M20b25 "885" head with its own cam and boost the crap out of it. You then have a low compresion 2.7 that can handle some RPM whereas the eta head cant because of less cam journals.

I should have read all the responses first before replying hey Raybimmer

That would be a nice and cheaper setup hey!!!!! By "chip" you mean the performance chip? If so where can i get one for this model?

Chip from unichip etc , preferably after doing turbo setup .
Fordkoppie , lol it helps !! Been there as well !!!:roflol::roflol:

Nice! Also i phoned around for some quotes and most places said they can build a custom performance stainless steel exhaust but can't build headers for the e28 due to space issues.......Does any1 know where i can have them done or another alternative as i want to build my exhaust system from the headers down?

TNT Exhausts , Viper exhausts ?

None of the 2 yet, but i'll give them a try. Also If i want to change the engine internals like the cam and pistons to improve power what can i change?

the "885" head with its own cam can be used .
You need to sit down and decide what you want , what your budget , and how long you are going to take to get the work done .
As you want lots of power you have a good budget .You can use your bottom end with this head and get 300 hp .
Guys like Budler motorsport can help you with turbo type , setup and further mods , depends on your wallet .
