Hi everybody I'm new to the world of BMW's and I have always wanted one . I have found a e12 but the carb is faulty. I was wondering is that an easy fix or would I need to replace it?

Howist man, welcome......
Truth be told they can be fixed, but sometimes tend to have silly, complicated and often costly issues as a lot of these cars do have. But if you're really keen and ok with doing some work you should be ok, plus there's tons of 518s around so I'm sure you can get another carb. Or you can go the webber downdraft route or maybe even side draft, but that's Lots of work..... Don't let it deter you too much though......

Well it depends on the type of carb and what you mean by faulty.
But I am guessing it has two single Strombergs. These carbs are scarce and few places still work on carbs. Your best bet is to take it to a place that still rebuilds carbs. Should bot be very expensive.
