I have a 2003 E46 330d with a M57d engine.
I need a diagnostic system that allows me to see live engine parameters. I purchased the Carly cable adaptor and BMW Carly Pro app, as recommended by Carly for the E46.
Connection to the “body functions” work fine (Diagnostic codes, clearing codes and programming).
The app however could not connect to the engine. Carly blamed the OBD connector then the adaptor and then the car.
I found an identical car in Johannesburg and the result was exactly the same.
After a year, Carly found an identical car in Munich and finally admitted there was a problem.
After a number of months they indicated that they has solved the problem. They updated the app and said that I would need to use a Carly Blue Tooth adaptor to connect to the engine. I purchased a Carly BT adaptor and updated the app.
The BT adaptor connects to engine ECU and I was able to read and clear Engine Fault codes. However when I select “Parameters” or “OBD” function the system reports “No connection to engine” and cannot display any engine parameters.
This has been going on now for over 2 years and about 100 e-mails to their customer care centre.
The adaptors are both OK:- Cable works on E46 320d, the BT works on a E90 320d. The car is OK it tests fine at the dealer. I believe there are other 330d vehicles that the Carly system does not test. The problem has something to do with the use of a slightly different data transfer protocol.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?
Has anyone found a solution?
Is there anyone around Johannesburg, or the East Rand, that uses INPA who is willing to try it my vehicle to determine whether it works? I need to know if INPA will work before spending more time money and effort.
Your help would be much appreciated.
