As for the stopshop unit.

The issue is not so much with the quality of the device (although for that price I am not convinced that its so hot) the problem is the operating system is Windows CE..

Windows CE is a frikken disaster when it comes to memory management, and as such, badly written programs tend to lock up the unit, stuff does not work ect ect...

This is NOT an oem headunit that has been tested by 8,000 germans in white coats, this has been assembled by the chinese for 1 dolla and some rice.

Again, I am not saying that this is crap, but you have to be fairly tech savy to fully operate/deal with this things crap.

I am going to order a unit as well for the //M when I have some money again and will provide you some feedback, but this is not for the faint hearted.

Running Windouze ??? :dropjaw:

You convinced me. I still have the old tape / shuttle in the boot set up and is hungry for some mp3's. So playing from a cell phone (Android of course:)), I need some kind of AD2P BlueTooth link to an AUX input or something. Chaps at the audio shop in Centurion have no idea what AD2P BT is.

And the aftermarket Pioneer radio looks carp in a Bimmer...

In terms of part numbers

78.png

1 looks like the one with the individual buttons and 12 look like the one which takes the single module.

Part number for these items (for a car with navigation)
1: 51168202187
12: 51167001409

thanks guys,

I'm trying sparez boys cause the bmw wants about R1400. for this bracket.

Even though the unit runs on windows CE, I'm sure playing a dvd /mp3 is not going to push the system to the point where CE loses its marbles. Could be worst , it could have run a version of Vista - then they would have to pay me 5K to take the unit.

Hold it! hold it! hold it! Before you cough... a rather big one, I am doing this to my car very very soon. (Going overseas for a few weeks and then doing it upon my return). Unfortunetly, we tend to get ripped off here on pricing, so I found the same unit for $500 = R3400. Oh yes, that is right....so before you drop the soap or if your back is sore and you don't want to bend over, then go to this URL and try them - www.cars-electronics.com

Sure, there will be duties to pay Customs, but nowhere near the R2200 extra being charged by the local yocals.

I think it is a worthwhile investment. I have the professional radio and the display is dissappearing and it is not repairable.
