Dumb question i know and don't kick me for asking it..

What do you think should be the estimate lifetime of your car battery and when should you think of replacing it.

I had a look now and still have my original battery in my car. Ok i never check fluid levels in the battery etc but at some stage the battery should get tired and mine's been in the car since new.

Also what pricing are we looking at for a replacement battery for a E90 323i ?

Not too sure on prices for your model. I had a new one fitted to my E39 a few weeks ago and it cost me R1400 :fencelook:

The bm's come with a "maintenance free" battery if i'm not mistaken:fencelook:

Currently there's no issues my car starts nothing feels weird or anything but i want it to start quicker, it feels like it takes a second longer than let's say it did 6 months ago.

so in my dumb mind i'm thinking if i replace the battery and the car starts quicker it's less wear and tear on the starter etc..

It should last about 7years

Usually battery life is between 4 - 5 years, but this depends on your driving (Lots of short trips/lots of highway driving)

Guys have reported batteries lasting up to 6 years with lost of highway driving

I would suggest changing it if YOU feel you need to, so that you don't end up stuck somewhere unexpectedly one day:fencelook:

Might be a dead cell. Was the same problem as mine. First go in and have it checked at any place that does battery fitting :thumbs:

I suggest that you try another battery to confirm that the issue is with the battery before replacing a working one. :thumbs: Does it happen on all start-ups or just the morning ones?

I suggest that you try another battery to confirm that the issue is with the battery before replacing a working one. :thumbs: Does it happen on all start-ups or just the morning ones?

On all startups that's why i was thinking it might be on its way out.

I would also say 5 - 7 years typically, and depends on how the car overall has been driven. Short frequent trips is not good for a car battery (and the car), but lots of longer trips is good of course. Batteries tend to die when it's cold, so now is the time to have an old battery tested before you are stuck somewhere when winter is in full swing! I know my car's battery is on its last legs - slower cranks when the car has stood for a few days to a week, and did this last winter!

Mine is also doing that when it's been standing. When little one came and i brought him and the wifey home i had no intention of driving anywhere so the car stood for a good 5-6 days and you can hear it takes a bit more effor to start.

Luckily i don't do alot of town driving and my trips to work is 50km odd one way on the highway so i guess my battery is holding up ok.

Will get it tested tomorrow and thank you everyone for the replies. :joy:

I actually want to invest in one of those proper C-Tek battery charges which is safe for these cars' sensitive ECU's and electronics, plus it properly charges the battery based on condition etc.
