DSC failure E90 335i

Hey guys,

Few weeks ago I had an accident someone smashed on my driver's side as I was turning and straight after the incident I noticed that my steering wheel looked like it was out of alignment and it was facing left even when I'm driving straight. Then shortly after that as I was driving the car home I noticed a message saying "DSC failed.
Restricted driving stability when accelerating and cornering. Drive carefully."

I have looked at the module and the DSC code there is 35. I haven't driven the car since then, I wanted to know if anybody knows what could be the problem as I'm getting ready to start work to fix the car and it's out of motor plan but still have the warranty I took after it came out of motor plan. I obviously don't want to take it to bmw as I will pay a lot for them to fix whatever the problem might be.

Ps: should I take it for alignment first and see if the error message will go away or is it a bigger problem than just wheel alignment?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure if related, but on my E46 330i, when i had the DSC Malfunction, it was the steering angle sensor that was out.
TWT Woodmead does alignment where they set the steering angle sensor via the Ecu.

The E90 has a device just behind the steering wheel, steering angle sensor. If the alignment is 5° out then the DSC (traction control) + Brake lights will be triggered.

You can check this out via ISTA or any diagnostic software, but best bet will be if you can see the wheel is facing incorrect, have that fixed and the light should be able to automatically disappear or if the error has been logged more than 30 times it will require software to reset it.

Fix the wheel or have alignment done and then see if the lights go out, which year model is the 335i?

Your Steering Angle Sensor needs to be recalibrated or worst case replaced.

If yours is an N54 it can be done using INPA, if N55 a Launch Handheld will do the job.

It's recommended to have the car on a ramp when doing this as the wheels need to be 100% straight
