Driving without most of its exhaust .. Will it cause damage?

Hi Guys

The Exhaust on my E30 is mostly stainless steel and at one point mild steel , the mild steel Pipe piece is really rusted out , there are two pieces missing towards the middle pipes ,

When I start the car , it sounds as if there is no exhaust , I want to remove it and drive it to an exhaust place to fit a new one . I know it will be loud .

Would I cause any damage to the cars engine ? Should I rather have it towed there?

Someone told me that I may cause damage to the engine , I know nothing about exhausts and their relation to the cars engine .

Thanks for all reply's.

I'm not sure about damage, but you better hope you don't get stopped by the cops :fencelook:

Just drive it there, no damage will be cause in a short distance.

Driving without branches is a different story and could cause valve issues.

Instead of removing the entire thing, why not drive it as is to the exhaust shop. How far is it ?

Thanks guys!

About a 5 minute drive , give or take . The branches / Manifold seems fine , its just the two pipes that connect the middle section to the back box is rusted out , its no longer there . The rest of the exhaust is stainless steel so still there .
Yeah! i was worried about the cops stopping me , its really loud , V8 muscle car without and exhaust loud haha.

well if they pull you over you tell them that your exhaust got damaged and you are on your way to the zaust place, simple as that. 5min drive there is nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't stress to much, plenty of cars are running straight pipes with no issues
