Nice find! I feel it would be better if they compared petrol with petrol, like the e30 M3 vs. f30 320i :hammerhead: Still feel the M would've come out on top!

I enjoy these type of comparisons, the old school Benz laying the smack down to the current model was a shocker....old school ftw!

135kw(f30) VS 143-170odd kw(e30) depending on the type of evo M3 used.

also i would imagine the e30 is lighter than the f30 so the ///M already has a far superior power to wieght ratio....

Im sorry Guys that was just the nerd in me talking, that was an interesting drag race with a interesting result:thumbs:

True but how much of the horse power would it have lost over the years.

However looking at the condition of the car i don't think much was lost.

So from all these tests, one can conclude that only VW made progress.

Or was the Mk2 GTi simply that bad? :fencelook:

How can you conclude that? To check the progress, compare the M3 back then to the M3 now. There is your progress.

Was it the 1.8l gti used, maybe the 2.0l or 16v derivitative might have fared better.

If I recall correctly, think the golf tdi had quicker time than the 320d over the 400m?

I am convinced had they used an auto 320d against the E30 M3 the auto 320d would have won as in my experience the manual shift 320d is not that quick but the auto feels much quicker. Would love to see the outcome of that! Also, the new 320d has a eight speed auto!

I think they should add the power pack from BMW then both are performance Cars
