Door Striker Adjustment

How do you align the door striker. I replaced my drivers side one and after shifting it either the inside light comes intermittently or the door rubbers squeek, also the door panel isn't aligned with other door if its too much outward. Its irritating Lol

Sorry for E36

My drivers door switch also isn't operating correctly. I bought a 2nd hand striker the other day then took it to a guy that does plastic welding to build the switch up to spec. I haven't replaced it yet because I realised that I don't have a t40 torx socket.

Many years ago on my E36, the light switch micro had also worn down, such that I replaced the door striker as well.

to get the alignment sorted was a "pain", but what I did was to leave the door latch ever so lightly loose, such that with a bit of force, it could still move.

then carefully closed the door, until it positively latched, and thereafter applied enough force on the door until the alignment was correct, this invariably also shifted the latch, which was only friction tight.

then carefully and gingerly open the door, and then properly tighten up the torx bolts,
thereafter check if it was still OK, if not, try again
