My E39 540i is giving me the fault code "Door Open" whenever I drive off.I used Carsoft diagnostics and it told me that the 'Passenger Door Module Faulty". I need info on how do I narrow my search down to the faulty door.

Could be that the door striker that mounts to the B frame has become mis-aligned. Had this on my E38. Try loosening the 2 torx head screws and moving the catch slighly back and up. YOu will have to do this a few times to get it right. When I did it, my door actually closes with less of a slam now too...

I'll second that, I had this on my e34 535, just as bimmerman says, just move the doorlatch arround until it catches better... also maybe the switch is worn out...

I tried the striker adjustment, wiring check and even the replacement thereof. I even tried this on all the doors.

Is the door open module also part of the G5 module? Anyone? I know the G5 module controls wipers, central locking and electrical windows.

I imagine that if you have checked the wiring and the door striker plates, then the fault will probably lie with the door lock that is inside the door. The door open/closed switch is mounted within that lock. The only way to get to it is to remove the lock from the door, dismantle and clean. Personally I would obtain another lock...either new or from a scrapyard...

I opened the lock on the inside of the door and only saw a module on top of the lock that is part of the central locking and there are no wires for door open signal.

I have now given up hope and would like a good referal (non oem) to take my car in have a professional look at the problem.
