Do you check your oil level after a service at BMW?

So how many of you guys check the oil level on your vehicle using the CIC especially after it's back from the dealership? Has it always been on max level or did you find it between min and max at anytime?

I have always checked the oil level after an oil service and for the past 8 oil changes the indicator was always on max. I tend to then check the level and top up if necessary until the next service.

My vehicle went in for its 9th oil service last week at another dealership from the one I normally use and it came back with the oil level 3/4 from min which indicates that +-250ml is short since it takes about a liter of oil from min to max.

Do you think this is acceptable?

interesting, I never check and always trust that they have done their job well. If I were in your position, i would go back and get them to top up the missing 250ml.

On my e90 330i lci I checked it after one service at a bmw dealership and it was not at max. I spoke to the technician and he said it would increase after a few days or driving a certain mileage. He explained that it had to do with the viscosity of the new oil. Indeed, it went up to max after a few days.

Funny you mentioned oil level. Did an oil change on the X5 yesterday and drove it a bit. Today went out and on the way Back I get a warning that oil is at a minimum and needs to be topped up asap. Checked the computer and it was red with just one bar. Yesterday and this morning it was at the max level.
Will have a look and top it up in a short while. Was also just being cautious as the last service I followed the manual with the oil required and then had a warning that oil was too much. So had to drain out some oil. Better to have slightly less and can top up than to have too much oil.

Check your oil level sensors too.

The few times I've had to add 1L oil it registered immediately as max on the idrive... no increase over time with driving or inconsistency in reading as the mileage piles up (suddenly very low or suddenly high after reading a quarter lower for instance.)

Checked the oil level again after a few days with the car driven for around 500km and its still the same

This is true, I experienced the exact same with the F20...immediately updates when oil is added.

I add oil and do a check immediately and it reflects.

All in order. Topped it up and it reflects as per dip stick. Could possibly be that the technology on the 2012 model is slightly older and the response is slower. Once the oil is warmed up it updates.

I went back to the dealership and was unsuccessful in getting the oil topped up. Firstly I was told that the oil indicator will not go to max and the correct amount was filled using a machine and adding more oil will be overfilling. I mentioned that the oil has been on MAX for the past 8 oil services and wanted it to be topped up so it is on MAX. I was asked to book the vehicle in so that the oil can be drained and the quantity shown to me which i refused as I do not have time for that. After insisting for the oil to be topped up to MAX I was told that I must pay for it since BMW does not pay for top ups. I was very irritated at this point and left the dealership.

I then sent an e-mail to the dealership a few days later explaining what had happened and was contacted by the service advisor who also wanted me to bring the car in so the oil can be drained and the quantity checked as according to their records the correct oil was filled. I asked the question again as to why the oil level indicator is not on MAX as the previous 8 oil services at another dealership. I was then told that the oil sensor could be faulty and that I must book the vehicle for in to run diagnostics which would then be at my cost since my vehicle is out of motorplan.

The best think that BMW did on my F30 was still keep a dipstick which I manage to locate and check the oil level the old fashion way and low and behold it short of oil which also proved that the oil sensor was fine and very accurate.

Sent a response back to the dealership a week ago and absolutely no response has been received.
