Do I have a problem!

Would like to know if anyone else has ever experienced the same on another diesel! If my e46 330d idle for a while, or going down a steep hill using no power, when I come back onto power it will run uneven and will smoke a lot. I can then feel that it is down on power.
for about 2-3 seconds the most. The car will not do this every time. Like once in 2-3 weeks. The car is running a mild map.

I don't think its over fueling as a diesel is different to a petrol. In fact most(if not all) diesel cars run lean normally.....I can't help u though just saying. hope u get it sorted. I drive a petrol so I have no experience with the power delivery of a diesel bmw

sounds like turbo issues, possibly drawing oil through the shaft seals and then a whole lot is drawn into the motor when you get back on the power...

This would be my first guess too.

Chat to Andy (Andy1GP) - IIRC he had a similar issue on his car, which he sorted out. Can't recall details.

Thanks for all the replies and help, the engine was rebuild about 6000km ago and the turbo was then checked and was still in good shape. Will check the EGR ot this weekend.
