So, the car is for me. Thanks Mia for posting this on my behalf. The service centre seems to be non existent and can't seem to find any history about them. I am actually considering calling the company who is now in that spot as they would have known about the previous business.

Also, Telkom does recirculate the telephone number so the number could have been given to the new company.

Is there anybody around Randburg that would have the time to come and view the car with me as I am worried about the service and the condition of the engine. The car looks solid and I took it for a drive twice. Not nice to purchase a car and have to worry about it.

Kavir

Guys, car is at 198 Bram Fischer Drive, Randburg. Scheckter Portfolio Cars is the name of the place. The car went in yesterday to Dave Robinson for a checkup and he called today to say the is clean except for a weld on the sump. It was done properly though so no issues with it and does not need replacing.

Is anybody free today to meet there? They close at 5 and I normally get there at 4:40 or so. Is anybody available to meet today as it is now a big worry that the car was written of but it is code 2 as it will be financed. That is not normal and not legal as far as I know.

I will PM everybody to see who can come with to check it up. Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Kavir

Is there any way to find out what was damaged in the accident? And why they were going to write it off?

I also have the VIN number from the car. If someone can find out information from that, it might have more information. They might have given me the incorrect information when I requested the number plate.

MY 2c, rather walk away, you can get a better one. See Coisman's post. If it was written off, then the damage was extensive.

Insurance wrote it off, this happens often that companies buy these cars, before its registered as a code 3 on e-natis, and repair them.

I was wondering why the deal seemed lower then trade in price. The weird thing is that when Dave checked the car up, he picked up no sign that it was written of. No information about any accident at all. I am just confirming with the show room that the numberplate that they gave is correct. There is a chance they the wrong plates.

Walk away man. Might seem attractive due to a lower price, but you will struggle to sell it in the future. Because the sump was welded it might have been driven over a curb or something and reason enough for the insurance to write it off. I would stay away as you do not know how long that engine ran without oil and might bite you in the a$$ later on

Thank you Cois, there are so many repaired cars for sale these days, and the dealers are unconcerned... yes it is true that cars can be repaired very well, but try and sell it on.. not so good.

Thanks Cois for the feedback. I almost bought a bad car. Thanks for everybody's feedback. Will have to search and hunt down another one and lets hope I get it for a good price.

Just as an update, I got the details that the car was in an attempted theft. They placed rocks on the ground the the previous owner drove into it. The car then died as it was leaking oil everywhere. So there was damage to the front of the car. The insurance company did not find it feasible to repair so auctioned it off.

It does seem to be the case as the guy who just serviced the car mentioned that the samp with welded but done very well as there are no oil leaks or anything.

I spoke to the guy who assessed the car and he will give me more details tomorrow morning at 8. He said he will then be able to tell me whether the car should have be a code 3 or not and whether there was any other components damaged.

I will update this tomorrow morning once I know more. Thanks everyone for the help thus far. I will really have to check everything up before I even consider doing anything. If it is nothing major, then I might still consider it. The car is selling for under trade in price. I will be extra careful though.
