Hey Guys,
So after experiencing this issue, I decided to share what I have done for fellow fanatics, should they experience the same issue. Note, this is my first DIY post so please forgive me if there is any mistakes.
Important thanks go out to Andy1gp for all his help. He is the reason I am doing this DIY, he inspired me
raise:
Abbreviations:
pc(pressure converter - egr pressure converter)
egr - you should know this by now
Scenario: So if you have already done an egr delete and should this problem arise where when you switch off the car, you hear like a farting/compressor shutting down noise that sounds to be coming from the alternator.
I have made a video of the noise so you can experience what I can talking about.
In the video you will see I show I have done an egr delete and also show the egr pressure converter located on top of my alternator that is making the noise.
Video Below:
[video=youtube]
Now, to sort out the problem.
1. Car must be switched off.
2. Remove engine cover(simple no. 5 allen key) remember to be careful and not let screws fall in the engine bay :RedNo:
3. Have a look at the pic, it shows the egr pressure converter, the egr pc power supply and the egr pc air inlet hose. Its labeled on the pic
Once you had a look at the pic above and see the pc mounted on the alternator and hopefully can see the same on your car, its time to disable it as it is no longer needed since we already have done the egr delete and don't need the egr pressure converter to work and this will also get rid of that noise!
4. Disable power supply to egr pc. To remove it, first remove the metal clip on it, I used flat screw driver to ease the clip off, and once the clip is off, you can simply pull the power plug. Please make sure you put the clip back on the plug, so you don't misplace it. Have a look at the pic below
5. Now, Identify the correct hose to pull out from the pc. I used a flat nose plier to gently pull the hose out. You still have to disable this hose as air is still pushed to the pc and the noise is still there. Tested this out so I know :coolShake:
Here is a pic of the hose to pull out. I labelled it as well
6. Once you identified the correct hose and have pulled it out, you need to plug the hose. I used a star screw I found and it did the trick.
Have a look at the pic, it shows the plugged up hose with the screw
7. I then used a cable tie(andy1gp trick) to neaten the hoses like below
And there you go, the egr pressure converter is disabled and that stupid annoying noise is gone.
Remember to put the engine covers back and screw them back on :coolShake:
So I also think that, if you disable the egr pressure converter, that should in theory disable the egr as well.(Can fellow fanatics confirm this ?) If this is true, then this DIY is a best of both worlds for those wanting to do an egr delete as well.
I'm sure this will throws some error codes on diagnosis but I didn't worry too much. You can get rid of those errors threw software i think. No errors where thrown on the car obd.
Hope this helps future fanatics if they encounter this issue.
Good Luck!
