diesel drivers...in the mother city

Hey guys...

Am in the process of getting to grips with having diesel in my life...so far am loving it!...(still keep asking for unleaded at the pump though)...:nono:

So I wanted to know, firstly from the Cape Town drivers, where is the recommended place for servicing/repairs for diesel vehicles? I only know of the usual suspects...Zeemax, etc but don't these guys mainly specialize in petrol engines?

I am going to replace the swirl flaps with blanks as soon as they arrive but other than that, I want to have the turbo serviced so that I know all will be okay under the bonnet...I contacted Turbonamix in Killarney Gardens who quoted me R2200.00 for a basic overhaul (bearings, thrust bearing, seals, decarboning, and re balancing)...does this seam like the right price for a turbo overhaul?

just hit 200k
The car was well looked after with full service history and details of all work done, but turbo was not worked on...not according to the invoices anyway.

I have only used Zeemax so far. They do both variants. Then again I haven't done any work except servicing. I get the whole preventative maintenance thing, just remember once it has been opened...like a virgin. My 2c. Welcome to the oilers club. I just believe you cannot drive a diesel like you stole it, all the time. Something WILL give.

Good to know about Zeemax...will most likely use them. Thanks for the welcome, The guy who owned the vehicle before me really looked after her well and I dont usually drive my cars to hard...I have a motorcycle for when I am feel like a more spirited ride...:=):

I would suggest along with the Turbo service.. Also go for a full decat as well as a EGR delete & obviously the swirl flaps you already mentioned. and give it a service, Just so you know & to be on the safe side. Also get the Crank case breather replaced.. I have heard of people swapping the E90 one in as its better (this is only what I have heard online somewhere :))

The Decat & EGR delete will help save the Turbo

Now I am no Diesel expert, but this is what I have researched for a friend of mine who got a 2000 E46 320d the other day...

Must say...am loving the economy of a diesel so far...I am getting slightly under a 1000 k per tank!

Including labour to strip and fit the turbo... this is a good deal :)
