Diesel additives

Hi guys - I have a bmw320d 2002 model which is going well. I always fill up with caltex since I bought the car. Last week I was unable to find a caltex garage and I filled up with Shell. Since then after start up the car tends to jerk - lacks power it almost seems as though there is not enough diesel going through the fuel injectors or it is sporadic at best, this lasts for a minute or two and then the car is fine and on other days it takes even longer to come right. Could this be additives that Shell has put into their diesel - this problem has only started since I put in Shell diesel or could it be my fuel injectors or maybe my fuel filter which is blocked? If it is the additives has anyone out their got a solution.
Thanks Garry:

Was it 500ppm or 50ppm diesel?

I always wondered about that I have heard of garages putting 93 petrol in 95 tanks I wonder if they do the same with Diesel

It could be you got some durty Diesel and its blocked you filter

It might be worth while checking it out

Try a bottle of diesel injector cleaner. I use a bottle every 5k kms. Keeps injectors and pump clean. Also with Shell, ensure you use the V Power diesel. That is 50ppm. Their diesel Extra is 500ppm, I think. Doubt your car can use 500ppm. Good luck.

I alternate my diesel every third tank is 500ppm... I noticed no difference in power but my consumption figures on 500ppm is much better.... I tried that NF fuel booster aswell and it did boost my car but it could be just my imagination aswell lol

I also have that sneaky suspicion about the diesel quality as well, and 500pm in 50 ppm tanks. I did a power run and was 10whp under my previous run, anyway I thought it was probably adaption or calm driving being light footed on the john deer.
Anyway I ran that tank of Total 50ppm empty, and refilled again but this time with sasol , did about 100kms, and back on the rollers again, 10whp was back, in fact it was slightly more.

From then I started sticking to a limited brand of diesel , and selected garages.

selected garages.

That is very important. I once received a tank of parafin from a Engen garage 50 ppm nozzle. How do I know? My aux heater (diesel burner) was pumping out bellows of smoke that smelled like parafin. Funnily though, just a block away, from another Engen, I get the best fuel consumption... Older diesels aren't bothered by 500ppm, in fact, it does the injectors and pump good. Only the oil gets dirtier quicker, and the particle filter clogged quicker. But the particle filter is regenerative, so as long as you do a 30min highway run often enough, there is no problem. (My car is on 283kkm, most of that was done on 500ppm)
