Diagnosis and lighting question.

Hi

So I have a warning light that comes on intermittently its the car on the lift in red. Now my mechanics said I must just bring it round to scan it when its on. But with my luck this damn thing only comes on at night or on the weekends. What do I need to be able to scan the codes myself? And where can I get the cable and stuff for the cheapest.

Now next question is I think my xenons are pointing to low. I have very little distance in terms of lighting but whats lit up is bright. Is there a reference to go by on how high they should be set? And am I correct in saying they can be adjusted on the light. I dont want to blind people. But I'd like to see as much as the road as possible at night.

Another lighting question, I've got LED angel eyes. Is it normal for them to do the "warm up test" where the both flash at the same time a couple of times then one said and then the other. My old aftermarket LED tail lights used to do it.

Thanks

The "red car on lift" indicates an issue that needs your immediate attention, eg. front or rear brake pad replacement. (Yellow/orange car on lift reminder of service/replacement due, not immediate)

Setting the headlights is an easy DIY, https://www.google.co.za/#q=bmw+headlight+adjustment
Search and adjust the headlights you find easiest.

You can buy the cable with inpa from a few vendors on Gumtree or Ebay:thumbs:

The flickering issue is normal with LED's, however you can have the cooling/warming feature coded away and it will no longer flicker again

My brake pads say they have 1000kms left. And from my understanding once the sensor is set off then the light will be on permanently? Not come on and off?

Singh what software do I need to be able to read the codes?

You are absolutely correct about the sensor, once triggered it stays on. I used the brake pads as an example. From what I have read the warning/prompt is normally accompanied by another symbol? (I randomly get orange car on lift with message for battery discharge...)

The red car on lift draws your attention to something in need of immediate attention. Read the codes as S1ngh suggests.

Thanks for the help.

Now another question which i dont want to start a new thread for. My E90 just hit 90 000kms. I want to change the oil in the box and torque converter. Should I let me mechanics do this or should I go to ZF and have it done?

I just think its time... ?

I also sometimes get a sort of a clunk. It generally only happens in D at low revs when I put foot and the release suddenly like its confused.

Oh and the car came with a detachable towbar minus the keys to use the damn thing. So I'm sure the car has towed some things. Which would make the oil go bad quicker....

The clunk is perfectly normal

Guess there shouldn't be any harm in preventative maintenance

Ok good was a bit worried about the clunk. I'll probably wait till 100 000kms to change the oil. Just hit 90 000kms. My previous E90 was fine and it was on 145 000kms but it didnt have SW.
