Depreciation

So I made this calculation:

I got my E90 320d new for R318000 in Jan 2007 and sold it for R135000 in April 2012. It means it lost R183000 in value in 64 months. That is a depreciation rate of 10.8% per year.

Do you guys think this is a average rate that could be applied to most cars/BMWs? It actually seems less than I imagined...

Well not that there's any correlation but to make you feel better the taxable depreciation is 20% :)

Thing is,

You probably bought a base model judging by the price, have you specced it higher, you would be in for way worse

Say a 330 sportpack or something...

The E90 was an exclusive.

Was the 2007 a trade in on the F30?

I would have expected 15 - 20%

Did not trade in, but sold privately for about the same price they would have offered on trade in. That way I got an extra R10000 discount on F30:thumbs:

yup I agree fully with Abmi.. over 5 years its around 55% depreciation which is still quite a bit.. and im sure the biggest off that was in the first 3 years.. still within normal ranges though.
