Hey all, I would appreciate some of your thoughts/advice on a 'little' situation that occurred with my vehicle and the dealership that I bought it from. Here's the "short" story:
I took delivery of my M235i at the beginning of last month. Upon delivery there was a scratch/gouge on the rear bumper from a careless workshop employee (which was only explained to me after I had to point it out). The salesman assured me that they would fix it ‘on the house’ at a later stage when I came to get the registration docs for my car. Rather annoying, but mistakes happen.
Fast-forward about 3 weeks and I’m told I can bring in my car for them to fix it. I dropped the car off in the morning and received a courtesy car and was on my way. Later that evening I decide to have a look on my ConnectedDrive App to see if my vehicle had been sent out for repairs, this is what I find:
My car is parked at someone’s house in Thembisa.
Queue the panic and I think A: my car has been stolen, B: someone took my car for a joyride, C: that’s a very strange place for a repair shop. Neither of the options were very appealing. After struggling to get a hold of someone for an explanation (it was about 6:45pm), the sales manager tells me that their repair shop is in Midrand and that’s all I got, no other reassurance (and last I checked ‘Midrand’ and ‘a house in Thembisa’ are not quite the same).
After a sleepless night, I message the the sales manager in the morning and all I get is that he’s in a meeting but all is fine with my car. By 11am I’ve lost all patience and call the manager but he still can’t give me any information besides that the car is ‘where it is meant to be’, so I tell him (stupidly) that I’m about to leave to the location of my vehicle. “Coincidently\Conveniently”, as I’m nearing the location, the ConnectedDrive app reports that my vehicle is on the move.
During all of this (and after), there was no communication with me about the situation, and no forthcoming info. After struggling to get a hold of the Dealer Principle all I got was: Sorry about this, we didn’t know that was where the vehicle was, we’ve closed the account with that ‘repairer’ and won’t be using them again.
Am I crazy to think that this is not acceptable? At this point I’m just trying to figure out if/how I should proceed. I’d really appreciate your guys’ input!
TLDR:
- Bought an M235i that was scratched on delivery
- Took it in later to be repaired (by the dealership)
- Car was taken to a house in Thembisa to be 'repaired'
- Am I crazy or is this normal??
