Dealership Woes

Hey all, I would appreciate some of your thoughts/advice on a 'little' situation that occurred with my vehicle and the dealership that I bought it from. Here's the "short" story:

I took delivery of my M235i at the beginning of last month. Upon delivery there was a scratch/gouge on the rear bumper from a careless workshop employee (which was only explained to me after I had to point it out). The salesman assured me that they would fix it ‘on the house’ at a later stage when I came to get the registration docs for my car. Rather annoying, but mistakes happen.

Fast-forward about 3 weeks and I’m told I can bring in my car for them to fix it. I dropped the car off in the morning and received a courtesy car and was on my way. Later that evening I decide to have a look on my ConnectedDrive App to see if my vehicle had been sent out for repairs, this is what I find:

location_8433493277.jpg

My car is parked at someone’s house in Thembisa.

Queue the panic and I think A: my car has been stolen, B: someone took my car for a joyride, C: that’s a very strange place for a repair shop. Neither of the options were very appealing. After struggling to get a hold of someone for an explanation (it was about 6:45pm), the sales manager tells me that their repair shop is in Midrand and that’s all I got, no other reassurance (and last I checked ‘Midrand’ and ‘a house in Thembisa’ are not quite the same).

After a sleepless night, I message the the sales manager in the morning and all I get is that he’s in a meeting but all is fine with my car. By 11am I’ve lost all patience and call the manager but he still can’t give me any information besides that the car is ‘where it is meant to be’, so I tell him (stupidly) that I’m about to leave to the location of my vehicle. “Coincidently\Conveniently”, as I’m nearing the location, the ConnectedDrive app reports that my vehicle is on the move.

During all of this (and after), there was no communication with me about the situation, and no forthcoming info. After struggling to get a hold of the Dealer Principle all I got was: Sorry about this, we didn’t know that was where the vehicle was, we’ve closed the account with that ‘repairer’ and won’t be using them again.

Am I crazy to think that this is not acceptable? At this point I’m just trying to figure out if/how I should proceed. I’d really appreciate your guys’ input!

TLDR:
- Bought an M235i that was scratched on delivery
- Took it in later to be repaired (by the dealership)
- Car was taken to a house in Thembisa to be 'repaired'
- Am I crazy or is this normal??

Option B is what most likely happened.. :smashScreen:

Does the ConnectedDrive app show routes/speeds sorry I don't have that option on my car? I hope your car did not endure abuse such as being raced or something, it is an uneasy thought and I am sorry to hear this had to happen :sorry:

I make a point of making sure people know my car has 24/7 active tracking with alerts for speed/harsh driving... Show them on my phone I can watch the car.

That's initially what I thought, but I kept checking the location and it was there from 6:30pm (when I first checked) all the way till about 11:20am until it was returned to the dealer. They then sent it Sandton ARC who I got a hold of and I discovered that some shoddy 'repairs' had been done, which could only have happened while it was in Thembisa... I still don't know which is worse though.

The ConnectedDrive app, unfortunately, doesn't show routes and only displays the location when the car's ignition is off.

I would never had the restraint you showed - I would have camped at the dealership or intercepted the car.
I hope everyone here supports you but not supporting Melrose Arch Auto.

Contact BMW SA and Germany - They looking to close a few more dealerships in Gauteng and this one should go to the top of their short list.

Wow! That's total crap. Makes me mad just reading this. I never really trusted stealerships to even wash my car, this is next level dodgy. They hardly even apologized and seem to think this is acceptable, soooooo wrong.

Pathetic service
The salesman and sales manager must have been dealt with harshly... The dealer principal, did he say anything regards to this or you did not get hold of him?

I would not leave it at that.
Make sure you print all the evidence you have and present it to BMW SA for an explanation.

Take the car back to them and tell them to shove the sale up their arses, and go get a new car from a different dealer. Either someone used your car to go home or they took it to their "friend who's good with sorting out scratches" to save the dealership a repair bill.

The fact that you first had to point it out is pathetic. Dealers do this stupid shit because a lot of the times they get away with it. Make them lose this sale.

I would return the car, pure and simple. I would also consider a vandalism charge as well for 'shoddy workmanship'

Your vehicle was taken where it should not have been, Rather take it to another BMW and have it checked out to make sure your original parts battery, tires, spare wheel etc were not tampered with or replaced with other. CHECK EVERYTHING including lights, floor mats, seat belts, badges, coolant bottles, all your filters and fluids. This happens often and you are lucky to have caught them in the act.

Thembisa is notorious for quick striping and replacement parts so they can sell the parts to other people for more money.

Personally I would not want the car anymore. Rather take it back and take your money elsewhere.
