Dealership with good workshop

I got my F30 330d from Lyndhurst auto mid June. Presently I am on 4600km and the service indicator seems to show that it will need servicing at 12000km. I want to do an in between oil and oil filter change at 6000km. Anybody recommend a good dealership with people in their workshops that are fellow fanatics and will understand that I just want an oil change with no resetting of the service indicator. I am well aware that I will have to pay for this. I am in the Randburg or Athol/Melrose area. Lyndhurst auto not an option, I believe they are closing down.

If you have the tools, why not DIY an oil change yourself? You could take your time and do it cautiously to make sure nothing gets damaged or forgotten. Taking it elsewhere will be a bigger risk of losing your motorplan because they might just do something wrong.

Hey Mattks,

At the oil change interval of 16000km (in your case), the oil will still be in great condition.
I have been exposed to oil analysis over different types of driving, e.g. City and stop start (most harsh) and urban, highways etc, taking samples in between. After all of this, the oil is still in excellent condition.

Don't waste your money... Just enjoy. Modern oils have come a long way!

I am an accountant for a reason, me and tools are a particularly lethal combination. Thats why I am specifically looking for a BMW Stealership to do the job.

As I am new to BMW I have no experience with the various service departments, so was hoping to get some thoughts on the various stealerships.

The ones that are in my vicinity after Lyndhurst Auto is gone would be either, Sandton BMW, JSN Bmw, Northcliff Auto, Club Motors Randburg.

Would tend to agree with JSN out of that selection. I am just not sure that any dealership would embark on what you want doing though. They are full of nonsense around the MP's and doing a change without resetting may be an "issue" in their eyes.

Oh well, a service now wouldn't hurt. I have a degree in engineering and I would say that I am quite knowledgeable when it comes to cars. As a matter of fact I feel that it is a very good idea to service it now. Most wear and rear takes place with in the first 10 000 km. My father is an accountant as well and he also believes that one needs to take very good care of a car from the start. The better care you take of your car when it is new, the longer it will last you. I am not 100% sure in which city you stay, but I know that BMW Menlyn in Pretoria gives a very good service.

They do inbetween service and you acrually get credit for it on your motorplan. But you have to pay for oil and filter and labour. Ive been doing my F30 320d from 10 000km and its on 60 000km now and oil in engine looks cleaner than the ones that have not done this. So there is maybe a good side to this. Ill keep doing it.

Interesting comment you have there bluebullet. One of my work colleagues had her 320i serviced at sandton and she complained that the car came back smelling like it had been standing with its windows open next to a good old fashioned boerewors braai.

Will phone Jsn to see if they will do such a service for me. If they won't I will try northcliff since haven't heard anything negative about them.

If all else fails - try Vaalridge Auto. Yes, they all the way in Vereeniging but there service is infallible (my humble opinion).

Without getting into too much detail, my car has been in and out of there 6 times over a 8 month period or so, for work poorly done etc. Long delays meant me leaving my car there twice for over 2 days. Lack of communication etc. My most recent experience which was last week saw me leaving my car there for a week just to have an internal heater unit replaced (it still does not work), they messed my cream leather seats and after specific instructions to clean my engine bay, they didn't. No one even bothered inspecting my car before handing my keys back, it was filthy. I was pissed. Now I realise my light at the driver side foot well doesn't damn work! I've had more issues with my car ever since going to them than I did prior.

The glen is also decent.

But no dealership will give you crap for an in between service, as long as you are prepared to pay.

Any workshop manager would easily approve it.

If I dont do the work myself, I drive out of jhb to BMW secunda to have my work done.

I don't mean to hijack this post but I've had horrible experiences at Lyndhurst, Auto Glen AND at Alberante. All for unrelated incidents...

At Vaalridge on the other hand, they seem to go out of their way to keep their customers happy. raise: Been servicing there for the past 3 years or so and never had any issues.
