Dealership praise/horror stories

Hi everyone,
I thought it may be a good idea to start a thread on good and bad experiences at dealerships across the country. Maybe we can then save a fellow fanatic from a bad experience. What do you think? Maybe mods can make it a sticky topic?

I always had good service at Forsdicks Tygervalley, always speak to Chester? or Geraldine.

SMG Century City is my new Favourite dealership though, very friendly and efficient service.

Auric Auto in Claremont I have my doubts about, there is a certain DP there that is as arrogant as they come.

I've always had brilliant service at BMW Hatfield (Pretoria). Always willing to negotiate on price for my out of motorplan car. My dad's car (E39 530i, out of motorplan) had to have an oil service last week. He pitched up unanounced and they managed to squeeze him in immediately, even giving him a courtesy car.

BMW Midrand is pathetic. STAY AWAY. They serviced my mom's 320d a couple of years ago, and didn't properly re-allign one of the belts. It came loose on the way home, broke a couple of hydraulic pipes and she had to stop in the night half a kilometer from a squatter camp (horrible experience, fortunately nothing bad happenned). BMW Midrand tried to fix everything was broken, but now the car leaks oil and they never indicated on the official log of the car that they were the cause of the problem.

Continental cars has been very good to me. Always very quick and efficient with the X5 and for the M3 only the parts department sees me but they are also a friendly bunch.

Jeez that is shocking!

BMW Club Motors Randburg: Worst, experience, ever!

I had a slow coolant leak. More than R12k worth of lets replace this, lets replace that... sitting there for 40 minutes to collect a car they said was "ready", taking it in repeatedly and being late for work repeatedly because they move at the speed of molasses..... as do their courtesy drivers..... More money, and the car just keeps losing water... and they insist I must pay for all this dicking around.

Eventually I give up and take the car to an independent.... He sorts the problem by locating a faulty CLIP, fixes it for no charge in 30 minutes. Obviously the fuckers were milking in me, unlucky for them, they will never see me anywhere near their shit-ass dealership again, esp. when it comes to buying my next bmer.

JSN Motors

Never had a problem with them...although i've never had any of my cars serviced there really. Usually only go there for parts. Speak to Werner, excellent parts guy.

Touch wood I havent had to take my car anywhere to have serious work done! Forsdicks BMW in Tygervalley however sold off a pirate airflow meter as a genuine BMW part to a buddy of ours. R7k! Now if you intentionally go out and buy pirate then hey, this is ok, but dont charge me for a genuine part when its not. Needless to say the airflow meter was faulty and he's still battling to get his bucks back!

That a bad price for a airflow meter. A mate of mine needs to change his MAF sensor on his 2001 Golf 4 2.0. R4k from the stealer or R1k pirate?

Hmmmm...where to start...all these were on my 7 Series!

Savspeed...took my car to him for a problem with it overheating and running rough. Got the car back and he said he had tested the fuel pressure and replaced the thermostat and everything was sorted. Needless to say on the way home the car overheated twice and over the next few days developed a strange fuel leak. When I got the top engine cover off, it appeared as though Mr Sav had left one of the clamps off the fuel hose on the fuel rail and it was pi$$ing fuel all over my intake manifold...THANK GOD that it did not spray onto my exhaust!!! When I called him, his excuse was that these sort of things are normal for older cars and that I should replace the fuel hose!!!

My other problem garage is Bosch Service Centre in Randburg. I had a headgasket repair done there and they managed to damage the hell out of the front of my radiator, scratch the front body panels by leaning on them as they were working, somehow damage my AC compressor as when I got it back the AC no longer switched on and managed to incorrectly seat the valve cover gaskets...causing a HUGE oil leak (the car would be enveloped in smoke everytime I stopped as the oil would slop out onto the exhaust manifold). I also had the fuel tank repaired at them TWICE as they screwed it up the first time. When I got the car back the second time, the fuel pump suddenly started making a horrible LOUD buzzing noise to which they denied all knowledge! Lastly, I could always hear this hissing noise from the front of the rad...BOSCH tested it on 3 occasions and said there were NO leaks and told me to stop over-reacting. I eventually bought a new BEHR radiator and got the old one out which had a HUGE split down the left hand side and was pi$$ing coolant all over the bottom of the engine...funny how BOSCH could not see this!!!

And so are the days of our lives...... It is for these reasons that I have started doing DIY work on my cars.

I have heard some real horror stories about SAV and the car butchershop they run

I have been very naughty with photo-documenting my work thus far.

I will however be doing a full write up and instructional on replacing all the intake gaskets and valley pan on the 540i, most likely next month. Then the 320i will be getting a new thermostat and housing right after the 540i has her surgery ;)

I also plan on tackling the control arms on the 540i very soon.

I know what you mean...i've done most of those but have never taken enough pictures to make a write up.

Also...what are the horror stories from SAV?

Without incriminating myself or anyone else, I have heard that they build great race cars, but not daily drivers.

At KOTM their turbo'd M3 burnt out, and heard a few other stories about their conversions gone bad.
But then I suppose there will always be good and bad stories.... I just prefer it when the good outweigh the bad.

This i agree with.
I had my 520i's engine rebuilt by SAV about 4 years ago. No problems with it so far. Then again...it isn't Turbo. I wish it were though, its painfully slow. :)

What happened to the court hearings of KOTM?

No idea, hey. I would assume they got swept under the carpet.

Zabbo, on the forum was actually involved in that whole thing, lumina basically bounced over his son. There was definitely a higher power looking out for him that day!
