De-cat E90 320d

Good day

Please assist…
My 320d has approx. 130000km’s and its starting to display some erratic behavior, at the higher end of the RPM range the car puffs lots of black smoke and has a horrendous shudder. Someone suggested the cat converter might be “blocked” up, which would be causing this behavior.
Could this be the case?
Also, does anyone know of a place in Centurion that does a good job of De-Catting an E90?

Thanks so much !

Why don't you check if the car doesn't have an error code for you to see what that black smoke is all about?

Hi lizzard

Do the decat and get the fuel filter replaced. Mine was also missing at times on partial throttle.

Fuel rail pressure errors came up. I changed the filter and all is good.

There isnt much places in centurion. I would rather save up and get X-Flow or TMSS or the likes to do it.

My 120D LCI is around that same mileage, and also giving the same symptoms.

What I would like to know are the pros and cons of a de-cat and estimated costs of a de-cat.

Becarefull , as no one can guarantee you by just adding the down pipe , that your car will not throw an error and go into limp mode.

You will have to do some type of software.

I did not want to do software ,I just wanted a down pipe and I got good response from Nishen at TMSS .

Actually to add to what Twincam Shark has said...no-one can tell you yes but you got to be one step ahead of the game if you want to mod your car.

You need to investigate your engine type and check if you have a pre-CAT sensor or a pre & post CAT sensors. Should you have the Pre-sensor only, then after decat, you won't need any software adjustment (the car will adjust itself)

Should you have the latter, then you would need CAT-foolers or software immediately to get rid of the errors that will haunt the car once the decay is done.

use the search function and read up more and ask away if anything else comes to mind because as TwincamShark says above...not many guys know. So if you not going to our reputable and knowledgable sponsors, then rather you know what needs to be done and how done best because its horrendous the amount of knowledge that is non-existent in tons of workshops etc in this day and age.

If you go down pipe with cat foolers , do you think it will throw an error.
I have a Late Oct/Nov 2011 - 320d

Hey bud,

2011 normally has the post & pre-cat sensors...gert has a 2011 and he has the exact same set up. So cat-foolers or software is needed when the mod is done from my knowledge bro. cat-foolers is the thing that doesn't throw the error
