DCT VS Manual

Ok Guys this is not about which is better type of topic.
I have a dct 135i and i love it but i got to think about a few things:thinking:.
What are your opinions on re sale of cars fitted with dct boxes.
For example two identicle cars one with manual and one with dct, which would be easier to sell and which would hold more value?

I know the smg was a put off for most people buying 2nd hand cars, but obviously the dct is much more refined.

Would really like to know yourl's opinions on these 2type of gearbox's when selling or buying.
So basically if you had to choose a 2nd model which gearbox between the two would you choose and a reason as to why you would choose it:woot:

i have always chosen manual as i like to drive my car. i feel disconnected from the car when its automatic.

Would have to agree with Josh.

The DCT would be amazing when sitting in traffic and cruising on those long holiday trips.

But When I like to push the car, I want to be the one in control.

In terms of resale I think the DCT and manual would both hold their value pretty well, as long as the DCT doesnt start having any issues it will much of a muchness between the two when it comes to resale value. For me, as has been stated by JOSH and Nukleuz, manual always my first choice when it comes to a performance BMW.

I think the value would depend on the buyer. A person that likes DCT would be willing to pay more for a car with it than the manual counterpart.

Thats quite an interesting question you have there. I think we can.only really know the answer in the next few years. But like its going now the dct is not showing signs of wear as much as the smg (my view, might be wrong) and thatight be a big plus for resale. If i had to bet i think the dct would go for a bit more than the manual. But if everyone is going for the dct now the manual would be more expensive because its rare. Personally id also go for manual but that has nothing to do with anything haha

chalk and cheese. DCT Rocks, i eat manuals and surely an additional R25K on the stock price for the DCT can only increase its sale value vs the manual

Guys we not disputing which is a better gearbox or which you would prefer.
My question is directed towards sale of a vehicle at a later stage, which gearbox would sell better and why would it.
Maybe the guys who have sold cars with dct and manual will be able to help out.
Its good to know if you in the market buying a new car, which gearbox to choose, as it would help sell the vehicle at a latter stage

Well, personally I would look for a manual as I feel they will be more reliable for longer and cheaper to maintain. Some people might fear maintenance costs on a DCT box that has a few years under the belt.

As for value, well, that depends on what sort of reputation the DCT will have after, let's say, 5+ years. If they even get a slight rep for breaking or being too expensive then it will hurt resale. If they keep going with no issues then a DCT vehicle should be able to sell for more than a plain old manual.

I doubt you're going to get a definite answer unfortunately.

I think it depends on mileage.
out of plan, manual should hold better.
In M/P DCT would probably favour the seller due to the limited numbers of DCT especially on the market.

I am in the market for a DCT so I have seen relative prices as well as dealers willingness to snap up a DCT.
A DCT never stays on the floor for longer then 2 days, a manual can sit for weeks at time.

Okay, DCT replaces SMG and is said to be the better technology, but personally I would prefer manual. Also, some of the SMG gearboxes were problematic - a good example the E60 M5. Under motorplan if the buyer wants a DCT or SMG, then I reckon they'd be willing to pay extra, but out of motorplan might be a bit risky and off putting for some.

It's way too early to say anything regarding the resale value of dct's. What I can tell you is that if you decide to sell in the near future,it shouldn't affect your resale value at all. Personally I would prefer a dct,for tuning purposes ofcourse

dont think dct or manual has any affect on resale. some like dct some like manual. now the porsche 911 turbo pdk performs so much better than the manual so will influence resale on that car so much more. i dont believe the dct will lose value because it is a dct. as some say in time if problems start arising with dct then maybe.
