What started in Jozi was halted by our move to CT, but now I would like to think this layout/setup will serve me well for the next few years.

We finally committed to renovate our study, I won the tender and was put to work on my first day of leave. This afternoon I finished up the job, there are some snags, but on the whole we are happy with the results.

I built/removed/painted/cleaned/moved everything in the past two weeks, the only contractors used was for tiling (laying not removal) and rubble removal (doing this from the 3rd level of an apartment block solo would have killed me).

Here is some before pics, this basically a mix and match of what was here when we arrived and what we had before.

There drawer is for when I need a keyboard and mouse setup. When you close the drawer, it allows more space for "Race mode". The numpad is there for additional vehicle controls, headlights etc. I will make up a stand for it in Jan, at my office we have a nice tool for bending plastics which I will use.

I am super chuffed and the SO also has a way better space to study and work from.

I actually wanted to build a race seat setup but was unsure if the ergo's would work & the aesthetics of the space is also important to me. I have a Mazda Mx5 NB driver seat which I might used for a seat setup later on.

For now my cheap office chair will do the job

Amazing transformation, I love it! You have given me motivation lol... I admire the fact you did most of the work yourself... Awesome stuff.

Managed to finally get myself an actual PC monitor
It's nothing special, only a basic 34" ultrawide.

Next up is to replace the std led fans which came with the box and to replace the glass with clear glass, the smoke look is too dark imo.

And then I need stop being lazy and start design my "sim cockpit" - I have a secondhand Mazda NB seat which I want use.

Some updates were made to the PC setup mostly to try and neaten the setup up further. I have a few more things on order small PC peripherals, more updates to come.

The screen is now mounted on an adjustable Vesa mount and I removed the old screen I used for the sim racing info. I will be using my tablet for the additional sim race info from now on. LED strips was redone (added 5m for the desk) and cabling was also rerouted to hide as much of it as possible in the cable tray under the desk or it was glue down to keep them neat. The cables (Ethernet/sound/HDMI) I need for my work laptop is also managed with cable stays when the laptop is not being used. This way they are always easy to reach or hidden away (see by Batman's foot).

What remains now is to get a proper chair which I will mount onto a rig for the pedals etc. to avoid the moving around that occurs with a chair on castors. And maybe fill the empty space above the scale models with prints of the e46 and the MX5 (once I have neatened it up a bit before going back to work).

What it looks like in daylight.

So I decided not to buy a gaming chair after watching some reviews and the general consensus being that are cheap and crap. I opted for decent office chair and ordered feet which will replace the castors to avoid movement(the chair has a 8 year warranty, awesome). Like many modern humans I suffer from lower back pain and had to make sure I get some which aids me in this regard. It's nothing special but so far it seems to work perfectly.

Sidenote:
The back pain is also why washing and polishing of the BMW has decreased as I have aged, I need 2 days to recover afterwards.

I spent about 3 hours redoing the leds and routing the cables to make sure, it will be easy to switch between my pc and work laptop and to hide as much of it as possible.

Also sorted out the stuff I stuffed into the brown drawers and the was able to remove the drawers completely. Again pushing for a cleaner look.

Some pics I took last night;
