Cosmetically its not a difficult fix from the looks of it, I would offer up 100k. Get it sound and 100% cosmetically and then bearings, vanos, valve clearance and suspension. Having been in the market for a Clean E46 M I can tell you that almost every E46 M for sale currently needs bearings, vanos, valve clearances and suspension work. The ones that dont are over 300k upwards and usually come up for sale on the forum. If I had the space I would by this and park it as another project

One project at a time @"Nikhil"  :roflol:

I'm not sure if you're serious? Obviously this would make 0 financial sense if he were to get pricing from BMW for every nut and bolt required.

It all depends on the end goal...

These part numbers are universal and will be required when sourcing the parts needed, be it from BMW or a third party. From the pictures the OP has uploaded, these are the parts he is missing and WILL require to rebuild the front end.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

And yes, zero financial sense unless OP wants a project to rebuild, otherwise look at getting a functional e46 M3.

Furthermore, OP would then need to look at doing the Bearings and rear subframe reinforcement.

[font=LFTEtica-Light,]Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

I think the views of the members above essentially capture my thoughts...to add to that,  I think its important to envisage an end goal, this particularly m3 will never be a pristine example (well unless cash is no issue, even so, cash can not buy a clean history).

If the end goal is a rough around the edges track/weekend mess around car, this car can be potentially viable...
However, m3 parts in the second hand market can pose to be a challenge...all the best bud

Yeah look, would probably cheaper to get the parts used, this is the route I would take rather than fitting A/M, it's definitely a project car at the end of the day.... My approach would be to get it up and running and then sort out the finer aspects as time goes..

It's also a safe bet that most E46 M3 examples for sale would require the above mentioned maintenance work, unless you are prepared for spend on a premium example which don't come up for sale so often.

Just saying that it's not a complete waste of time, not everyone has the same criteria.

OP

IF you can get it for like 40-50 and then as somebody said get a touring, perhaps a swop can be done. Maybe you can cannibalize the rear end onto a touring as well in a good body shop? Then you're at least building something kinda cool. But to go through all this just to end up having an e46m3? It's not gonna work...

Yo...too many questions raised and too many unknowns. For me when something starts out this complicated it's usually a sign to move on. And I agree...the interior looks worn from the pics, the seats, steering wheel and gear stick. I do however second you notion on the E46 M3...I wouldn't mind owning one myself as a weekend car in the near future...but def a silver one ?

i never thought i would see this car again.

i dont mean to kill someone's potential sale of this car but what happened to this car!!!

i owned this car about 5-6 years back. i bought it as a project. i initally repaired it and the car drove fantastically.

unfortunately with time, i kept having issues with the car.

looking at the pictures you have posted, i can only assume that this car was involved in another accident thereafter. No-one would simply strip the front of the car again.

cons:
1.i think you would spend 100k minimum to get the car to a satisfactory condtion.
2. you'll notice from the 1st pic im attaching is that the body of the car wasnt that bad save for the front bumper etc. the car did howver go over a curb and the suspension was slightly damaged. this was repaired however still gave me issues while i had it. the owners after me may have repaired this but id just inspect it before making a decision.

Pros:
1.the advanti wheels on the car. there are only 4 sets in the country with a cost of about 20k.

2. the mileage may be correct. if i remember correctly the car had just over 110000km when i had it.

here is some pics of the car of the day i brought it, the repair and after completion.

Howsit guys

So obviously I can't reply to each comment individually, but I have read each and every one of them and I've come to a conclusion about this build.

It definitely won't be such a wise option in the end and from the way it looks, it will be a financial mistake in the long run that I will regret. Instead of investing so much of money on rebuilding this one, I could just get a mint E46 M3 2005 instead which would have less things to worry about. But that day is still far from now but maybe one day.

So its a no to this car as I am not going to take it on. I guess for now its back to looking at other more simple projects like beetles, e30s, e36s and who knows, maybe even subarus.

Thank you to everyone for providing their input and advice to me on this discussion, appreciate it.

There's another way to look at this.... if you want to mod/enjoy your 240i, go for it and should your motorplan be cancelled etc and provided you dont blow the motor , R100k+ could go along way to enjoying the car you already have, factoring in some basic failures......use it, dont use it...at the end of the day its just about your perspective and being cautious or going balls to the wall, if Covid has taught us anything, its that life can change overnight!
