Current rain and deterioration of roads...increased stone chips!

I was shocked to see the number of stone chips on the front of my car after having it washed this weekend. The only conclusion I could come to is this is as a result of the continued rains we have been experiencing and the resultant sand/stones washed onto the roads along with the crap from the numerous pot holes....

Anyone else noticed this as well?

Increase in potholes as well.

What happens to cause the road to break up...?? Here's what happens...

Water trapped in the small cracks in the road, are put under preassure when a car tire goes over it, thus creating a mini hydro preassure explosion, breaking apart the structure of the tarmac. Over time these micro cracks turns into bigger cracks, allowing more water in, and thus more water to be put under preassure, thus bigger hydro explosions, thus bigger holes.

All this broken up tarmac and gravel being taken out of the road, plus all the rain washing gravel and dirt in from the side of the road is causing havoc with our roads, and cars.

PS: If I am wrong about my essay above... then please feel free to rectify me. :thumb:

The front of my car is full of way too many stone chips to notice any new ones.

I have however seen a major deterioration of the roads, and major damage to flooded areas. It seems SA is no longer the safezone away from mother nature any longer.

Stone chips are the number 1 reason why I dont like washing my car... I notice new ones :cry:

Coming back from Joburg a while back a Taxi gave me a lovely one on my bonnet. Just missed the windscreen thankfully. :argh:

Prior to the last 2 weeks I had only a couple of stone chips but now the front edge of the bonnert is peppered with chips....I dont really drive on the freeway as most of my commute is through suburbs, there are quite a few sections of tarmac resembling Ralf's pic above...

went to harties today and had to go off the road to avoid a big pothole, couldnt go to the right as there was a string of cars coming

lucky I was in the bakkie,so didn't have to slow down too much, and the dirt on the shoulder was better than the actual road I was on:nonono:
