Hiya all. Despite the negative feedback I got about removing the cats I,I finally let my curiosity get the better of me and took my car around to salt river PF this morning to have it removed... Bt damn!!! Why didnt I have it done sooner!!! Definate increase in throttle response and the sound...the sound... don't get me started! I didn't think my tame baby could sound that agressive! And evens better driving, driving at normal speeds, u woundnt suspect the the capability of such a grant. In short, if your car is out of warrenty. Do it.

did they replace the cats with silencers or straight pipes? What model you driving? And most importantly, what did they charge you?

Replaced it with straight pipes. Planned on putting silencer on if I didn't like the sound. E46 323i 2001. R650

do you have cats in the headers on the 2001? I've got a 2003 and its gots cats in the headers and mid pipe

Yes it does. Only took out the mid pipe cats because it didnt have sensors and there were no mountings and stuff in the way. Taking the front cats out seems risky

yeah you cant just cut them out because BMW made the headers with the cats built in, you actually need a new set of headers which will cost quite a bit more than your mid cat removal.

Hectic. Bt I'm quite happy with the outcome of the mid cat removal! I just hav to figure out what to do next without goin to crazy. Maybey tuning as twins suggested? Any idea bout costs or options?

You use engine power to drive all the pumps etc on your car, by increasing the size of the pulleys, you reduce the speed at which the engine has to turn those pumps and the alternator, hence less work that the engine has to do and more power it can deliver. These pulleys still maintain a safe operating speed for your water pump etc.

Thanx, that makes so much sense and it doesn't seem to invasive. So that's +1 on my shopping list!
