Cosmos E36 M3 that was for sale

So just had this brought to my attention on another forum, thought I would share.

Its the Cosmos M3 that saturnz posted for sale for R135 000 and 197 000kms on it.

It was subsequently sold but has had a haircut and is back up for sale, obvioulsy bought by someone wanting to make a quick buck.

Mileage now a little over 120 000kms.

Busted much??

Things like this really grate my gears..... whoever bought the car found out last service at the stealers was at 120K and back track the mileage to a little over that and sell it for a ridiculous price.

Now when I see a E36 M3 with low mileage, I'll think twice before even looking at it. Its a shame though because some poor soul is gonna be tricked into buying it just because of its "face value".

Well I sold the car in the most transparent manner I could sell it.

What this guy decides to do with the car is his issue and not mine.

I can identify with that.... i spent a long time stressing that the mileage on my ///M was incorrect - spent much time on the net checking out tell-tale signs, tamper/manipulation dots etc...

What finally put my mind at ease was the opinion of guys who've worked with BMW's for many years that were formed on 1. the condition of the interior and 2. the condition of the big-ends when replaced.

I bought my ///M on gut feel and self-inspection before actually taking it to an "expert". I would not advise this though... always insist on taking the car to someone who knows BMW very well before forking out!

Well if you read my original for sale post, I would have welcomed any test on the vehicle since thats how confident I was in the vehicle at the time.

But people (on this forum) still consider me dodgey and will at every opportunity tell people how dodgy I am, even though they can produce no evidence that I actually ever ripped somebody off.

Before I bought my car, I took a few other E36 Beemers to a BMW Expert to have a look at and he told me exactly what things needed to be replaced and how much it would cost and if I should buy it or not.

Saturnz dude I definitely am not implying you are dodgy!

Generally speaking i think the best deal a buyer (and seller for that matter) can get in the 2nd hand car market is a transaction between forum members.

Having an inspection performed should be standard practice.. many sellers get their backs up on the suggestion of an inspection and take it personally... this attitude is wrong and to protect the buyer should be walked away from.

davejones, the people who call me dodgey know who they are. However if you ever come across someone who tells you how dodgy I am I ask of you to please ask them what exactly I did that negatively impacted on the person I was doing business with, and if I didn't offer to rectify the situation.

This makes me so angry as I am looking at buying a car now.

I have asked "Skiet die Bliksem" to assist and he has been Invaluable to this search. Thats how we picked one car had 365 000 in 2010 as appose to the Advertised 200 000.

I have a also contact the manufacturer to pull service history for me

More than that I do not know what to do.

Makes you nervous and proves that the more research you do the better.

But it has not become a thing of Fun but rather a tedious excessive to buy a second-hand car.

Aslo Buying with your heart is being out wayed by buying with your mind.

Is there any law against this type of thing?
