Cops pulling over Z4s and the response to laser jammers

I have posted this on a previous thread as well.

Consider the following scenario, you are driving on the highway along with the other cars, and the cops "scan" the vehicles as they go past and they cannot pick up yours due to a jammer, they will most definitely pull you over and actually look for the device regardless of what car you drive.

A beter option would be to go for a detector rather as it would not interfere with the cops' speedguns, but it will warn you well in advance to slow down.

problem is the distance they can trap you from vs the distance you can detect it from . I got a fine, trapped from over 400m away.

If its a laser jammer, you can get in big shit. Defeating the ends of justice I think it is ;)

Correct, don't even have to have it operational at the time - if its there, you are being a dodgy criminal in their eyes. Know of two mates that spent weekends in the slam because of it. Cars impounded, court etc etc......

The problem is that even though these devices are getting "smarter" at warning you, so are the cops at catching you. This country is the only one where cops try and trap you rather than enforce the speed limit.

Examples of this if you look at Europe and the U.S speed traps and cameras are clearly marked, if you want to break the speed limit that is your own problem, none of these "surprise" spped traps like it is being done in South Africa...

I had laser jammers that were worth R15 000 on my M3... They were amazing because they warned me when I was being tracked and immediately sent back a signal saying I was doing 80kph.

But... I have since taken them off as I got pulled over so many times and the cops tried arresting me everytime. BIG SHIT. I had to beg and plead and *buy* the cops expensive lunch. I even cut the jammers off right in front of them.

So... It will end up getting you into shit and costing you more money than the fines themselves.

the one which sends a speed reading back seems interesting! Which make was that? How'd they stop you for it if it sends a reading back?
And is that the jammer on your front bumper?:fencelook:

Mine helped plenty times. Worth the money it costs. Though it needs to be installed level, else it's not very effective.

just ask the cops for the relevant documentation that authorizes them to trap where they are located, and also for the calibration certificates... you will soon be on your way again...

AFAIK, they need not have it on them, but a copy back at the station suffices.

Allow me to give to you guys the final wrord on the use of lazer jammers and lazer detectors. I did a legal opinion for one of the leading importers of these products about 3 years ago.

The use of both jammers and detectors, is illegal, zip finish and klaar. You can be charged with defeating the ends of justice and if convicted, there is NO option for a fine, only jail sentence.

Jammers can be detected and most of the speedtrap devices can indicate. A "jammed" error. Your car will be put on a rollback and impounded and you will be left to spend some time with HIV infected hooligans in a cell, waiting and struggling to apply for bail, especially over a weekend!!

Detectors cannot be detected by speedtrap devices, but prove to be useless if you are asleep when trapped or travelling at speeds more than 150kmh. You will not easily be prosecuted for the use of a detector, 'caused the cops can't prove it was on when trapped.

I was a dealer in these products, but stopped completely. I also do not use the jammers or detectors anymore.

Rather stick to the speed limit, and if you want to go fast, fist drive over the route and checit is safe, easy as that.

Or prepare yourself to pay big bucks in bribes to the corrupt cops!!

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

maybe its my age, but I haven't had any traffic violation in more than 10 years, actually closer to 15 years, although the "ex" managed to rack up 2 or 3 speed fines whilst driving my car, thus "on-my-record"....but personally nil in more years than I care to remember..and all without sensors/detectors etc except my Nuvi GPS which "bings" for fixed cameras.
