Sure it's the brakes? Might be something like a piece of plastic caught on the exhaust.

nope definitely the brakes! The smoke came only from the calipers...

Happens to me everytime I drive hard, I get monumental brake fade after just one hard stop too. Had an incident where i overshot a turn because my brakes went dull.

Wow, that bad huh??:nonono:
It can get scary when this happens

Well I wont be doing this again anytime soon...even though I still have motorplan:nonono:

If you pedal still feels spongy, your brake fluid boiled, and now has air in the system.

Solution: bleed the brake system and you would be fine

But wow, you must have been having an awesome time :)

I will feel the brakes today. If they still feel spongy then its off to the dealership for a bleed and maybe new pads and/or discs

And yes, I was having a blast!:joy::joy:

This is worrying though. That car must have been tested and developed. I mean its bmw.

Why is his brakes overheating. Why?

Plenty people hitting trackdays... I have not heard of this before.

Yip agreed. And it was only like 10min or 20min max.I can't imagine some people going for a trackday filled with HOURS of fun.wonder how these brakes would perform?or not perform:nonono:

Not related to the smoking, but are those calipers the stock color, or have you had them painted/powder coated? They look awesome! My calipers on my 335 seem naked, and was considering having them painted/coated to make them easier to clean (as well as look better, of course...)

Yip that's the standard colour.i must say I also like the grey color.and with the "BMW" branded on them they look even nicer!!all factory standard spec

I see the new generation M cars come with the calipers in a dark blue color.looks very hot!!

As mentioned above as long as your pedal feel has not changed you should be ok. You'll probably notice that sections of your brake disc have become blue. The 135i brakes are not known for their long term ability to withstand heat, especially in track-like conditions.

Another tip for when you've finished driving like that would be to find a flat surface to cool off on without your handbrake or footbrake applied to prevent contract between the brake pads and the disc which could lead to boiling the brake fluid.

My lady lives up that pass so I hit it very often! That's my favourite driving Road :inlove: I did the same speed on the straight only I do it while I go up cause on the way down she's with and will throw heavy punches :roflol: never cooked my brakes though, sliding in the bends is more fun

I also did that speed on the way up, coming from Franschhoek side.
On the return leg though I took it easy on the brakes.and yes, that meant some sideways action was in order:rollsmile:
Agreed, waaaaaaay more fun!!:praise:

So have you changed out your brakefluid yet? Gone through that road again at speed?

Nope, the next day I drove the car the brakes seemed fine.Even the pedal-feel feels good, albeit maybe not quite as sharp as it was, but this could merely be in my imagination due to me being so focused on the brakes since then.but the car is going in to the dealers this week, so I will inform them that I need new fluid.

Thanks for asking @boxerulez as I have already forgotten about the brakes!!!

I will post about the brakes and it's feel after getting the car back from the dealers.

Ps: No I haven't yet tackled that road again...but it's just a matter of time
