Considering E90 320d

Hi all,

I'm considering getting my first E90, a 320d '06 model auto. Car has 150000kms on the clock.

Just want to check if there is anything I should look out for with it having a little high mileage? Car has no oil leaks, has ample power, motor sounds decent. Going this week end for the last test drive before I make my decision.

I've seen guys on the forums with serious high mileage and looks like the turbos aren't really a problem on these cars as the previous models.

Thanks bros:thumbs:

Hi. As long as its has been well maintained that mileage is fine. I have a 320d with 230000km and still running very well. You wont be sorry especially with the auto. Gudluck

Hi
Very nice car , i got one last year towards the end of august after driving an E36 316i for a few years
Space/interior wise excellent ,drive even better ,very economical
watch out for the curb clearance cause it is a bit low in front
only use good diesel not the diesel 500 , maintain it well & you'll enjoy it
I paid R80 000 for mine they were going at R110 000 at the dealers ,bought mine privately . i had the car serviced replaced front & back disc, pads & sensors ,oil breather valve as there was an oil leak all in all under R10 000

ENJOY:clapper:

One things to look out for is the turbo on these cars.

Does it make a loud noise when you rev it, like it sounds like you have a boeing going pass when it climbs through the rpm's. If it does this have it inspected, but otherwise it is a good buy

Thanks for the reply bro. I've seen many people abuse these cars and been put off when it comes to diesels. I have also seen a few good ones though that's been going strong since day one

Sounds great man. I'll be spending a bit more on this one but looks like the previous owner took very good care of the car. I initially wanted a face lift but they are quite pricey.

Thanks for the reply

I started the car cold one morning starts right up with no problem. When the car warmed out we drove it hard but no sounds on the high rpms all you hear is the diesel motor running. I drove a E46 for 2 years and the turbo had a whistle, this E90 has no sound like that at all unless I'm looking for the wrong soun:dunno:

Sorry to hear that man. Car has full service history at BMW after motorplan ended I see it was still taken to BMW. What are the oil change intervals on these cars? I only see it being done when it was taken for a service

Don't follow the bmw service indicator on the instrument panel of the car but what the guys do on this forum, I know of 2 people with bmw, 320d by pure luck that changes their oil at 10 - 15000 kms to prevent the turbo from being a problem. It is more of a preventative maintenance, then a maintenance itself. Rather safe then sorry I guess

My friend bought a 320d a few months ago, actually 4 months ago and within 5 weeks his turbo blew as he was taking a 90° turn and wanted to accelerate and nothing. Was a shock to him, me too as this is funny, thought you needed to hammer the turbo to break it but he didn't and it still went.

Regular Oil service changes is what makes it last, I then helped him install the new turbo and there is a lot going on with it. Oil being the most important, even just starting it up was tricky, not to break the new one we had to do a sequence of things to get the turbo oiled prior to starting :hammerhead:

We did this and today he is driving like a king, looking at the startup and stuff but worse is that you never know when it will go. Turbo did get louder over time prior to the break but we didn't know that as this is the first turbo diesel in the friends car family.

Service the oil at 10 - 15 000km and you should be sorted, oil and filter that is.

Check service history with BMW. Thats pretty much it!

Sorry this may sound stupid. (New to this) :/

Can I walk into a dealership and just check the history with them?

Thanks for the tip, I would definitely maintain it well. I don't want to go through a turbo changing dilemma any time soon

Have the same model , and the car is the best buy I have made.
Recently replaced the alternator.
Might have to replace blower fan as well.
Get a good Warranty as it covers the expensive items, most of it anyways.

Happy driving.

Hi guys,

Just thought I should update the thread and put a note aside

I decided to leave the 320d and go for a facelift 2011 e90 320i auto. not a sports pack but a really clean car and very comfortable on the road.

I also dumped this username because I lost access to the email account:smashScreen:
