Hi Guys - i recently purchases a 2013 320i auto F30. I have downloaded all the apps (my remote etc). I called BMW and they advised i need to register on BMW Connecteddrive to logonto the apps. I successfully managed to register but when i 'add vehicle" it states unable to add vehicle as no Mobile Network Facility. I called BMW again and they advised that this feature is only available to BMWs manufactured after 1st July 2014 and cannot be added on to an older vehilce - please let me know if there is anyway around this as BMW.com says that these apps are compatible to the 3 series from 2008 onwards.

Also wanted to ask, which is the best smart phone to get in terms of compatability with the BMW i have - between the Samsung and Apple.

Thanks guys:thumbs:

I have the same problem on my "new" 2013 F30 330d. (November build). For "Apps" to work via connected drive you need the "Apps" optional extra installed on the car. As far as I know you don't get that as a retrofit.

Don't be fooled by the wording "Connected Drive". You have "connected drive", just not all of its features. (BMW Live, Apps etc. are all options you need to check)

It's all ridiculously confusing...

Read this FAQ: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/bmw_apps/downloads/bmw-connected-faq.pdf

What is needed to use all new features of the new special option “Apps”?

All BMWs equipped with special option code 6NR ("Apps"), Navigation System Professional, USB connection and SnapIn adapter in combination with an iPhone and the BMW Connected app (which can be download free of charge from Apple’s App Store) can use the full feature set. In addition, it is recommended to have a suitable mobile phone contract with broadband data services for the best possible functionality (e.g. webradio).

You do get Apps (6NR option) retrofit from Bmw. I think it's around R2.5-R3.0k for the enabling code excluding installation (part no 65902219127). (It's simple coding). Or if you have a cable you can buy the code from BMW and do the retrofit yourself (requires technical know how).

Regarding the mobile network, see if in Bluetooth options in iDrive you can enable data transfer for your phone. Then enable Personal Hotspot (for iPhone) or the equivalent app/setting for other phones and plug your phone in to the car. When it requires network access it will use your phones 3G.

The data transfer option if it doesn't exist has to be enabled via coding as far as I know. That's what I did on mine.

But I'm not provisioned for connecteddrive so can't do much with it.

@ri - You seem to know what you're talking about, so what needs to be done on my car to enable apps? I really wanted to try the new GoPro App, and then realised I don't have apps...

My equipment (which might be relevant):

S609A - Navigation system Professional
S676A - HiFi speaker system
S698A - Area-Code 2 for DVD
S6NHA - Hands-free with USB interface
S6WAA - Instrument cluster, expanded equipment
