Have bought myself a problem guys. Bought another beamer the other day, advertised as a E34, looks like a E34 and runs like a E34 but is vin,d a South African E28.
A little birdie told me there were some 89 year E34s vin,d as E28s, has anyone got knowledge of this, The serial number is also stamped on the left front strut tower. I may take the coolant header tank off tomorrow and see if BMW stamped the upper firewall like the 89, 7 series.
Also this has some interesting rims fitted,,,,,,, BBS Bugatti three piece polished units. A quick google of these revealed some interesting prices,,,,,,, way more than I paid for the car.
So, what I'm after is as much info on this minor hiccup, have I bought a rebirthed stolen car or is it legit. It has been licenced here in Perth so police obviously have no interest in it.
Cheers Guys

Early E34s had a continuation of E28 numbers.
As far as I know it only applied to 1988 models.

Interesting Peter, di, so its worth more..d not know that.

Post some pics, the diff between E34 and E28 can be seen a mile away..

If it is an E28, count your lucky stars, they are getting rare

BMW Germany , And South Africa think my E30 320i 4 door , is a 320i 2 door coupe. Seems they messed up vins in the past . BMW classic is still confused about my car though . Wouldn't be to worried about it .

My old E34 535i (1989/12) was also vin'ed as an E28. The local agents (Continental Cars) were just as confused as everybody else, and eventually told me that it was an "internal error".

The E28 production ended 1987/12, except in SA where a "Limited Edition" model continued to end-1988. As mine was a 1989/12, the VIN was obviously incorrect.
