Im leaving for durban in a few hours, is it safe to go and come,
Shudder started abt 3 weeks ago,

Clutch shudder could be

1)Crankshaft seal leaking oil, onto the clutch, normally you can smell a light hint of burnt oil
2)Clutch thrust bearing on its way out, normally this is accompanied with a screetching sound when the clutch is depressed
3)Uneven thickness of flywheel face, similar to brake disk "warped", normally resolved by having flywheel skimmed.
4)Clutch plates getting close to wear limits
5)Also check the fluid level of the clutch master cylinder, low fluid levels could also cause the clutch to not disengage properly.

apart from points 2 and 4, it should be safe to go for a while, if 2)Thrust bearing, then it could go at any moment, 4) if worn to limits, will still work, but the metal rivets holding the clutch material toegether could start to come in contact (metal on metal) with the flywheel...and gear changes might become more "crunchy"

thats from my experiences

Thx Ralf,

No smell of oil, clutch releaser seems fine, no screeching noise, I think its just clutch plate almost gone, but will do all when I change it,

The clutch padle does get a bit softer when it shudders but comes right once in second,

PS...we have recently employed a "jack-of-all-trades" mechanic, who is now doing clutch changes etc for us as well, already done 2 this month.

So we are branching out into "light" vehicle repairs, clutch changes, and minor services/filters etc

Hi ralf, give me a qoute on both labour only, and parts with labour please,

Hi fanatics,
I reached safe, actually I was so tired stopped at de hoek toll and gave the wife to drive, I fell asleep, when I woke up we were at mooi plaza,
The best part is making the wife drive actually saved me money, will post pics, consumption was 5.7l per 100km, she used a little more than a quarter tank to get to dbn, I cant believe it, if I do the maths its about R350 petrol, topped up at alrode bp just before the n1,
So impressed with the car,
Also no shudder in dbn, but clutch does go soft now and then with all these hills in the suburbs and steep driveways,

no issues dude it will hold up:thumbs: a few tips tho, when in traffic or at a robot keep you car in neutral and use the handbrake or foot brake as this will take some strain of the clutch. don't do any racing either  from past experience with shudder its normally the pressure plate that wears before the clutch hence causing the shudder and soft pedal every now and then. clutch symptom's are normally when the clutch "rides" after the pedal was released

Thanks Nikhil, will try my best to resist, for some reason when kzn people see gp plates they want to race lol,

You spot on with the symptoms, I was advised to do dmf one time if I intend to keep the car which I do, so waiting for bonus in July and will do both,,

Clifton

we phoned around for prices of clutch kits, and sourced them for just over R3000 excluding any extra's we might need such as accidental seals, and any oils etc that might incidentally come up

My mechanic says that he would like the car for about 2-3 days to make sure that nothing comes up, and says the job should be around R4000 to R4500 in labour ontop of the kit.

Those the car shudder on take off on first start up?

How much traffic do you sit in.

The clutch on the E90's tends to shudder when they get hot.

Hi Ralf.

Thx for the qoute. That is a bit steep. I got a qoute for R2500 for the kit
But managed to get better. Labour free. Lol. My wifes auncle is a mechanic in midrand said I can bring the car to him.

Akash it only shudders in 1st. And only on take off on a hill with a load. But it never did it before. So that's why I want to change it.

Guys I am back in jhb. What a trip. I will start a thread to show you.

I had an awesome time and car went and came awesome. I also caught the biggest fish ever in my life. Caught abt 7 fish. Went to park renie and undloti beach.

I caught abt 6 fish.

I'm actually on the internet now searching for dee sea fishing boat. I want to go next month.
