So my reverse gear just stopped working, how embarrassing. After a couple of calls I was told I need to replace the box. Hell !!!! no I thought to myself. How on earth can an entire gearbox just pack-up like what these so-called experts tell me. All of R8k for a recon box and installation.
Sent car to a gearbox mecchie in Blackheath and R3.2k later I got my car back today. All the gears are working smoothly.
Some bushes were worn and this caused an aluminum fork in the box get damaged through wear. So all of this was replaced.
I was also told that some rubber at the front of the prop-shaft will need replacement cos mine is cracked. This is not the one at the back(I replaced that one some time ago). Masterparts will probably sell me that one for about 1/2 the price the stealers want

This just makes me think what some of these workshops do.
1. Sell and fit a recon box for R8k
2. Take my box and repair it for say R2k
3. Pocket R6k
4. Go to step 1 and repeat.
Now I know they have overheads etc. but why is nobody willing to repair stuff anymore. Actually why do we still buy these technically advanced cars that nobody want to repair? I bet even the dealers would probably wanted to change the box.
Luckily it is not a Volvo, now there is a car with a gearbox that you never want to touch.

And so we just generate more garbage all the time. I think next to global warming our next problem will be garbage.

Take for instance wiper blades. The rubbers are usually worn out but the housing is still in good condition.
That's why I decided I will just buy the rubbers and slide them into the housing. Fairly straight forward to do it and it save me money on top of it. Also generates less garbage.

just wait till you cant get wipers at all... they wont make them because most people will be buying a new car every time the wipers go...

I guess from an economical point of view, some people find it cheaper to replace the whole car rather than repairing it all the time and go through all the inconvenience and frustrations:banghead:.

In the greater scheme of things, is this not what car manufacturers want? Maybe that's why repairs are so expensive, except when you have motorplan, but then you already paid for it in advance.

Thou shall not repair, thou shall replace.

the problem is machines cant fix things but they can make thing very easily... till they sort that out it will not change because labour will always get more expensive because peoples time is worth way more now than it was...
