Hi,

Yes the car will shudder on pull away.

you will also notice some slippage, whereby the car will not "catch" gears immediately, sort of like if you put your foot down and slowly release the clutch. Kind of a delay or rather slow power.

There are some other telltale signs, which im sure the helpful people on this forum will share.

Thanks Xmax, now the funny part is that shudder is nto so bad...infact it sometimes doesn't shudder unless i am in heavey traffic....like a lotta stop go situation....

at first you wont really feel the shudder, especially if you add a lil extra throttle when pulling away. u will first start to feel it at low speed pull aways.

sometimes you could mistake a clutch related shudder on take off if you dont add enough throttle on take off. sort of bogging the motor.

Im not expert. just sharing my experience with my past manual cars.

the shudder could be the flywheel... if you change the flywheel you may as well change the clutch same time because the gearbox is already off

Carlitto - if it at that price do it..

Luckily motorplan on my E90 - dual mass flywheel + clutch kit + labour and the screws and crap they used was 20K

At first you feel the slight shudder and believe me it get's worse in 2k km f everyday driving so maybe have it looked when you can.. Good luck :)

Oh and if the dealers do it you will have a nice little sticker on your instrument cluster saying do not rev over 3000 for the first 500km to allow everything to settle in nicely. :)

Hi guys... Sorry to be busting Carlitto's thread... :)

I have a 318 E46, and whenever I put the car in neutral while idling, it makes a weird kind of whistling sound, not too loud though. Once I keep the clutch in or put it in gear, it goes quiet... Should I be worried?

Only thing is, it got slightly louder over the months.. which tells me something is wearing out...

and would anybody have an indication of cost? i was quoted R4400 including labour....

if the flywheels gone you probably looking at about 3k more R4400 is not bad price... the shudder when warmed up by traffic is typical of duel mass flywheel failing...

Ephraim, this must be the releaser bearing in the box. Its on its way so you have to remove the box to replace this bearing.

FYI Iffy, Part No 3
