Clutch change (2010 320i E90)

I have a 2010 320i E90 that needs a clutch replacement. How much could this cost me. I tried BMW but their are not prices friendly, they go up to 12k. I am in the Eastrand, Boksburg to be specific.

get a custom flywheel made which is like 5k and resurface your existing clutch whoch is like 900

Done, nest time you only need to resurface your clutch

Ok found out for you.

This is what the dude says

Flywheel R4500, Clutch resurface R600, Labour to install R1600

So next time you want to change the clutch you don't need to worry about changing the flywheel

Yes a solid flywheel will be a huge step backward to save on cost later, but you have to remember a few things,

1 self adjusting pressure plate
2 not just the friction material of the clutch plate wears out
3 the flywheel is dual mass for a reason

You drive a high end car so if you are too cheapskate to spend on a clutch replacement, sell it as is and buy a Fiat sicento

Haha rather buy an older BMW than a fiat. But seriously there was a guy that did it to his 135i on the forum but he has a button clutch. Best bet speak to him and see what he thinks. But yeah I would stick to oem. But 12k is flippen ridiculous

I'm glad someone got my point. Lol.

OP call MasterParts 021 657 5757

Complete clutch and flywheel kit from the OEM supplier is R7500 at the most, ( I stand for correction). They also have a Jhb branch you can call, I don't have their number.

After that all you need is a mechanic and about another R1000 for labour.

#Captain Stealth. The days of a R3k clutch change (parts and labour) are gone, I did a Jag X-Type the other day, parts cost to me was more than 50% of the final bill, which came to R25k.

Yoh that's insane. I would only go with the custom flywheel setup if I was saving cash cause basically you pay once off for the flywheel and the rest you just pay for delinking your clutch

I mentioned earlier, the self adjusting pressure plate that BMW and a number of other makers use on the DMF setups, these are not reusable with a refurbed clutch plate.

The reason is that it has a ratchet mechanism built into the pressure plate that compensates for the gradual decrease in the thickness of the clutch plate (read wear), this is to maintain a consistent pedal travel.

Some people say they can be reset and reconned, but don't, rather not. The refurb vs a new kit price wise is not so much that it would make the refurb look like a good idea.
